Tracking Collar (NOT GPS)

Related question.....this has to be added to a collar of some type. Rafiki has a mynwood jacket for when she goes out on her leash but she does not wear it inside the house. She would go nuts trying to remove it if I kept it on. I have been trying to come up with a way (aside from an implanted chip) of having her information readily available should she get out. Does anyone have a super comfy, escape-proof collar for their little door darters?

I would never put a collar on a cat unless it is a breakaway, in which case it would be pretty useless if it is left behind. If you want to make sure she always has your contact info I would get her used to wearing a safe walking jacket or harness 24/7 and either sew in an SD card with your info on it, or sew the actual info onto the underside of the jacket.

I got the Pet Loc8tor today and it seems to be a pretty good unit, and I think it is worth the money... I threw together a video review so that everyone could sort of see it in action... I do not have a model for the tag yet, but that will be coming as Elsa has not yet arrived. The video is 2min, 12 seconds long.

This was done in haste, please do not judge the video quality as video work I usually do. This was basically thrown together, and I spent no more than 45 minutes on the entire production.

Well, I will go back to my initial concern that I would never put a collar on a cat that isn't a breakaway, and I don't like the typical strappy dog harnesses either as I think they are too easy for cats to get out of (or get strangled in) so my first question is, how are you going to attach it, and my second question is, how far is the range? It looks great to locate a kitty hiding in the home but not sure how practical it will be if kitty gets out. I saw a video just the other day showing how far ranging cats are when outside - it was pretty scary to this indoor only family...

The range is advertised for 400 feet. I have not gone outside to check that out but the front yards in my neighborhood are about 80' wide and that will put it at about 5 houses wide. Of course going through walls or other obstical is going to reduce the range just by the nature of directional RF.

I primarily got this for indoors, and when she goes out I want it to me by my recommendation and not her quick impulse, so I am going to try to train her not to become a darter so to speak (if that is possible).


I attached it to the same place as the bell with a small ring... Between the Bell and the RF I should be able to find her even if she finds a way to get inside of the furniture.



That collared pictured is a breakaway collar. Both Petsmart and Petco carry them. Check them out... Can even get them personalized, which I may do... At least is someone else manages to catch her they know where to call if they are honest.

The problem there is my cats always get break away collars off asap so it'd be a waste Tricky Kitties!
