I did cry lots, I think I held it mainly together when Trish took Hattie (the last black kitten in that row of pics) but that was because I was giving a seminar at a judges' conference and trying to be all professional. I cried anyway though. Diane took Ajani (the black boy in the second pic) away at ~5am so I was half-asleep but me and Zari cried together in the hotel room that time... and then I was a complete mess sending Kissy (the cool-toned black pawed one in that first pic) off to Germany. The United cargo folk had no idea what to do with me, I wouldn't leave her until the guy came to put her in the van, so was just there crying while Kissy inspected everything as she was totally okay. The van guy was great, very reassuring and Margitta thinks I am pathetic for my worry but it was the first kitten in all my years of breeding that I had shipped out and it was so hard! Luckily Kissy arrived in Germany and waltzed out nonchalantly and never looked back.

I got to keep Zari, the third one along... she's my special girl who thinks she owns me :)

Just worked out today that mama Nadiya is due for a repeat litter sooner than I thought...yay!
So, Kissy speaks German now, eh? ;) I guess I don't envy you your job...I'd definitely keep the Kleenex company in business. Zari looks like a charmer who knows how to get what she wants. How like those adorable fluff balls to train us, instead of the other way around. :sneaky: Congratulations on Nadiya! Looking forward to more of those precious baby photos!

I am the same way...saw one of my kittens tonight (he lives 10 min from me) and i kept telling myself i wouldn't cry, but did of course.

I cried when every one of my kittens left, but at least every one of my kitten buyers keep in touch and i get lots of photos and updates.

It is so difficult to let them go, but knowing and seeing how happy they are makes it much easier.

I don't think I could keep going through the pain of all those goodbyes. When I was a little girl, my uncle gave me a stray cat. Mom didn't like pets, and made me keep Mewzette in the basement. I couldn't wait for school to let out so I could run home and play with her...she was always so happy to see me! I still remember the heartache when Mom gave her away. I didn't have my precious kitty for long, but I was crushed all the same.

That's a shame about your stray cat :( Sounds like you loved animals so much even as a little girl! I was the same way...I remember bringing my Mom home a rabbit for Mother's Day ;) We had ducks, a rabbit, a parrot, a great dane, a boxer, lizards, iguanas and cats..so I grew up with all sorts of animals and have never been without a cat.

it is very difficult - much more painful than I thought it would be...I am hoping the second litter will be a bit easier, but somehow I doubt it.

This litter was particularly difficult because I took care of the kittens when Zuri became ill and was hospitalized for four days, a day after they were born. I literally had to stop crying over everything and save their lives! So saying good-bye to them was extremely difficult, which is probably why I kept two of them ;)

Agenor is in the Netherlands, but I get to see him all the time on FB and all the other kittens are pretty local! I see Tau who is ten min away and am invited to see Perseus who is in NY state, any time I want...so all in all, they are in wonderful homes and I love getting photos and updates!

Well, Paige, I hate to say it, but I really don't think this second litter is going to be any easier to let go of. As I said, you sound too much like me. Once I had my daughter, I don't think my hormones ever went back to normal. I see and feel the world differently. The older I get, the deeper I feel for those outside of my family. I can't tell you how many times I've cried over situations when I didn't even know the people who were involved. The same with animals. Many years ago, it would have been easier to see a stray, and let it go about its merry way. Now, it breaks my heart, and CC and I are compelled to feed them. I wish we had the means to build our own cat rescue. He has rescued more injured animals than I can count. He even took a chipmunk he found in the road to a vet. The worst was a cat, sitting in the middle of the road. It had been hit by a car. I got out and directed traffic, while he gently wrapped it in my coat. Thankfully, it wasn't a busy road, as it was in the dead of night. Sadly, the poor thing had too many internal injuries, and had to be put to sleep. That cut me to the core. People at work call me "Waterhead". May as well get used to it...you're a waterhead, too!

You are probably right, Mrs CC...I don't have any children, but was a NICU and Peds ER nurse and felt the same way about babies and children, but there I HAD to be strong, since it was my job...

I think though, as we get older, things bother us more...

Your strays are lucky to have you both and I am glad you feel so deeply for animals...and I can relate to your stray cat in the middle of the road story as tis happened to me as well :( And like your story, the cat could not be saved...

I would be happy to be called waterhead ;)

God bless you, Paige, because there are 2 jobs I could never do...yours, and the oncology dept. I'd need to be sedated, and that's no lie! It must be a comfort to the parents, knowing their children are under the supervision of such a caring nurse. As far as children go, those kitties are your babies, and I can truly understand why parting takes such a toll on you.
