Trying to make some life changes!

Well, if I am reading your message correctly and you only have one class left to get your degree then I would encourage you to go for it.

I am in 13 credit hours this semester, enrolled for a May intersession and a summer class and then have 3 (maybe 4) semesters after this one! I think I have figured out that my main issue right now is the job. It is a loan company and I am going for a Business degree so I sit at work thinking "Is this what I am going to school for? Is this what I am spending all this time working towards?" I think if I had a job more related to my end goals I would want to try harder in school because my thought process about it would be changed. Yesterday I sent my resume in for a job at a Cat Clinic. I had my evening class at OU and realized I was only a few miles from the clinic so I also went in and filled out an app and told them I had emailed my resume and school schedule. I'm really hopeful that this works out!


Thank you so much to everyone for lending your opinions and thoughts. You guys have no idea how much it means to me! I know I can't quit school. I was so proud of myself for getting my Associates and I have a great support system in my Nana, my brother and his wife, and my boyfriend. I know I can do it I just needed some people with more life experience to knock some sense into me!

Here is my 2 cents...I so agree with everyone...but ultimately the decision is yours and you will have to live with your decisions...

I went to college at 18 first for music...I had been involved with playing music from age 9 until I went to college...I hated college and only lasted one semester...I went back when I was ready at age 28...became a nurse and worked as a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) RN...one MUST become somewhat hardened to all the death and disease and everything that comes with working with very preemie babies...if not, you cannot do your job...to this day, I remember some of the babies I cared for long-term...so even if it seems like we don't care, we really do.

I then moved on to the Pediatric ER..that was a different kind of stress and once again, you cannot break down and you cannot let your feelings get in the way of your job or people/children will die...instead, you die a little inside, I think, with the trauma you experience and if you don't learn to cope, you cannot be effective...I left nursing after 10 years due to burnout...

That being said, I cannot work with animals where death is an every day occurrence...I worked for a shelter and only lasted a year...I could not lead healthy animals to their death and that was part of the job...

I have an acquaintance who is a mobile groomer and makes a fortune...I guess it all depends on what part of the country you live...on the East Coast, it is easy to make a six figure income as a mobile groomer...BUT...you must have experience and business savvy!

So stay in school, get your business degree, see if you can find a groomer or even mobile groomer to work for and go for it...

I was also 42 when I went back to school (was already an RN!), must be something special about that age I don't regret having waited that long though, I just wouldn't have been ready prior to that so may not have been as successful. I'm a believer that everything works out the way it's supposed to in the end.
