Two Bengals and a F2...soon

Welcome everyone!

I recently put deposit down for a F2 Savannah kitten. According to the breeder, he was a pound heavier and two inches taller than his littermates at 8 weeks, so I'm expecting to have quite the handful when he grows up. I'll be picking him up sometime in the next couple of weeks (the date has not been decided), and as such, I'm trying to soak up as much information as possible.

I've already got two 5-year-old Bengals which are certainly loads of fun - they do everything from destroy TP to using the toilet - but I'm looking forward both to welcoming another cat to my spacious apartment and all the mischief that will certainly follow.

I'd love to pick your brains about a few small things:
-If you got a SV after having other cats, what steps did you take to integrate them?
-Do you walk your SV? How often?
-What kind of diet do you have your SV on?
-What is the quirkiest thing that your SV does?

-Kovu is our only fur baby, so no advice on that.
-It depends on the weather here. We had gorgeous weather in Tacoma for a couple weeks, no its all rainy again. On rainy days I don't take him out. But on sunny days I take him out on the leash for as long as he'll let me. Usually about 20 minutes. And then later in the day after the kiddo has had his nap I'll put Kovu in the backyard on his tie out & let him chase bugs & stuff with Elijah, that usually lasts anywhere between 30-60 minutes.
-Per his breeder he gets dry food (Blue Buffalo Wilderness) left out all day. He doesn't eat much of it tho. Just a couple bites here & there. But in the morning & evening he gets canned Blue Buffalo Wilderness.
-He gets the zoomies. BAD. lol He'll run all around in circles, chasing his tail, then jump up on the table for 2 seconds & then run around the room, and then jump on his cat tree (that has now been broken I need to get a new one), then onto the couch, up the stairs, down the stairs, repeat about 10 times. And then it finally ends with him panting at the top of the stairs in front of my office. lol
The photo is him stalking bugs in the backyard on his tie out. He loves going out on that thing, gives him a bit more freedom than the leash does. Then he just comes to the door & meows when he is done.

1. I had a DSH before I got Taj...I did not listen to the breeder and let taj assimilate with Cisco after one day. I did not understand then how important it was to quarantine him. Cisco was 7 years old when taj came into his life and there are pics on this forum of Taj laying across him as a kitten. Taj just wanted to be near Cisco.

2. I walk Taj a few times a week now. I do not walk Zuri...but I have also built them an enclosure and prefer they use it.

3. Taj eats Rc Young Adult and Proplan canned food...we switch it up with raw. Zuri eats whole prey and a bit of canned food.

4. Too many quirky things to write down...we actually have a forum dedicated to quirkiness.

Yea, I certainly want my cats to be socializing ASAP, but I understand why it's a bad idea before I can get him checked at a vet (and I can introduce their smells to each other).

You mean this entire site is dedicated to how crazy they are? Awesome! :p

Congrats on your soon to be Savannah! You are in for the ride of your life :)

My confession: with my very first Savannah (an F7 SBT), her introductory and quarantine period lasted all of two days. My other cats (3 domestics and a bengal) were very accepting of her and she fit right in with them and with us. We could not stand her cries all alone at night as the other cats slept with us...so out she came. I would not do that now of course, and didn't with our next Savannahs (you can't have just one!) but a period of at least 2-3 weeks or more is recommended as you want your Savannah to bond to YOU and not your other cats.

I rarely walk my Savannahs outside. I do however, take them on outings to the pet store, my bank, my insurance office, my local party store, the phone company...wherever animals are allowed. The staff and customers love it!

I feed a combination of a good quality grain-free dry food, canned and raw or cooked meats.

Too many quirks to mention....;)

Most kittens are a bit squiggly, and won't want to be held or petted as much as be busy and investigate their new home. There's so much to smell, see and hear and do!

Enjoy!

Oh, congrats on the new addition to the family, he's gorgeous!

Give it a few days. Vakai was ready to play with the feather-wand toy right out of the carrier- but he was wary for about two days. I confined him to the bathroom and sat with him and played with him and read to him (to get him used to my voice) for hours. The longest I've ever spent in the bathroom. Once I'd gotten to the point where he'd come over to me for a pet and didn't mind me picking him up, I let him into the bedroom and now he's sleeping on me, trying to eat all my food, sticking his head into water glasses, and generally being adorable.

Oooh, he is gorgeous, congratulations!!! I think if you're patient with him he will come around quickly and bond with you in no time. Remember, he was just ripped from the only home and family he ever knew. All of this is very strange and unsettling for him, but once he gets comfortable with his new home he will be fine. The key is to give him time to bond with you before introducing him to your two Bengals, otherwise he may bond with them (certainly a more natural bond) rather than with you.

Do you have a name for him yet?
