walking harnesses

The neck strap and how tight it is will in part determine the distance to the torso strap. The neck strap should be placed on first with enough room to get two fingers under, any looser and they have the opportunity to slide the whole jacket rearward. The Torso strap should also be pretty firmly attached again using two fingers as enough space while making sure the leading edge is well in front of the elbows.

Escaping any harness for SVs is all about getting that elbow under the torso strap. There heads are small so there isn't much resistance getting their head through the neck loop if they freed themselves from the torso strap. They also need your assistance in getting out by pulling against the direction they're heading when backing out. Always best to circle to the side or maneuver yourself behind them.

Both are boys love their walking jackets and it's time to get some larger ones. I've used JoyKatz jackets without issue for a few years now, and probably burned through just about all their fabric offerings.

Snooker, I have a 5 month old F2. I am still teaching him to walk on a leash but have made a lot of progress over the last month. I started by putting the harness on very loose and let him walk around the house a few times until he no longer seemed to notice it. I then put it on the correct way (much more snug) and had him in the yard on a long line. After doing that everyday for a month or more, he got more comfortable with being hooked up to something and stopped tugging when he would get as far as he could go. He now seems to understand the "limit" and no longer jumps around when he has reached it. I have only tried to take him on two short walks but he is doing great! Now when ever I pull out the harness he gets excited and wants to have it on. I am certainly no expert but I hope it helps.

I wanted to make sure that I measure it properly and that its fitted the way it should be. I know it takes time to get used too and I think your idea is great. Have them wear it for a week or so, so that they may get used to it, then introduce the outdoors slowly.

This is a perfect example of the right way to introduce a cat/kitten to a walking jacket. Some cats adjust easier than others, so it is always an individual thing as far as the timing and progression of events, but the bottom line is, start slowly and time each progressive step at a pace they are comfortable with.

I have an outside enclosure that all the cats love to be in. I begin by placing the kittens on the back of a chair to put their jackets on, place them in the carrier and take them outside. All is forgotten about the jacket. They learn that outside means jacket and enclosure means carrier. And that they must get on the chair and "be good" to get the jacket. Very handy skills to know and doesn't take too long with summer babies.

....where the wild things are.

We use the cat harness that petco sales. It's just a leash style harness but have had no slipping issues and have been able to fit it on our cats ranging from 11-16 lb. this is our 16 lb pixie bob waiting for his walk while the Savannah harasses him about looking silly ;)

I bought that same harness because I wanted the bungie cord leash! I attach it to the long retractable one.

My pixie bob can wear his jacket very loose because he never tries to reverse out of the thing. Also, while he loves going outside, he usually only wants to stay less than an hour. My savannah, however, needs a very snug walking jacket. She loves being outside and gets pretty obstinate when it is time for us to go back inside. She will try to dart under things and reverse out.
