Weekend away

It probably depends a lot on the cat. I haven't left Shango alone yet... more because of what he could potentially destroy out of boredom and I'm not comfortable using a pet sitter I don't know. Now that I live closer to family, I'm sure I could have my mom or sister check in on him 2-3 times a day for feeding and play time if I needed to leave for a couple of days, but I prefer to just take him with me on work trips since he does great traveling.

As Paige said, I wouldn't leave our boys alone and at minimum they need two visits a day and with Dooley's med schedule three.

Ours do pretty well, but Loki will knock the water bowl over starting on day 2. I started putting it in a big storage container to save the hardwood floors. We have a friend check on the every day or every other day. We get an attitude from them for about 3-4 hours when we get home.

I've always had a pet sitter come in twice a day, but then I had a cat that needed meds twice a day and we have a dog that needs twice daily meds too. I could see that if we didn't have those, then once a day might work but I'm probably too paranoid a pet owner to not want someone checking on them at least once a day!

Even without the med schedule we have, I still don't think I would duck below two visits a day. It's really a matter of self preservation, someone is going to find something to tear up if there isn't a mechanism to scrub off some energy. We've been fortunate enough to have people who will spend an hour with them, chasing ice cubes is always more important than eating and they get to air their pads out with some playful romping.
