What age to Spay F1?

Hi all! Just curious on the recommended age to spay our F1. She is 5 months next week. Her breeder said not until 8-9 months, but I've been reading that 5-6 months is okay. She's very new to the Savannah breeding world and honestly doesn't seem to know much!

She's adjusting well, but starting to act a little crazy and is starting to pounce on our other cats!

Many breeders spay/neuter at 3-4 months - it is perfectly fine.

I always read at least 8 weeks old and 2 pounds before getting a cat, Savannah or DSH, spayed. I know my vet personally prefers having the cat be at least 5 lbs before spay/neuter, but will do it sooner if requested. 8-9 months seems rather long to wait... I'm no expert, but I thought they can go into heat sooner than that. I think 5 months is completely fine is you wanted to get it done now, assuming she's in good health.

Veterinary care of Savannahs is no different from domestic cats, early spay and neuter has shown to be completely safe in kittens.

I don't see any good reason to wait until 8-9 months, all you run the risk of is your cat going into heat and starting to pee inappropriately. Spay her now!

... not to mention running the risk of pyometra since a cat could potentially cycle multiple times by the time they are 8-9 months old...

I've always spayed or neutered my cats 8 to 12 weeks old and they have always been fine...
