What type of relationship do you have with your vet?

Well buying in to the ketamine thing or not is an individual preference but knowing the history and risk I would certainly not want to make a bet on coming out on the good end.

I have never had a problem with ketamine...it is not used as a single anesthetic agent, is used for many, many, many savannahs with absolutely no issues...when I see scientific proof that using Ketamine as a short acting agent with another agent is a major issue, then I might think otherwise.

I don't know what history you are speaking of. All I have heard are a handful of stories of problems after ketamine use, but do you really know what happened? None of us know if the cats were given an overdose by mistake, which I doubt would be admitted, if something else happened during surgery or if it was a true reaction...and that can happen with any drug...now what Brigitte is saying makes a lot of sense, as far as the Savannah being a lean-muscled cat, and the absorption may be greater because of the level of body fat vs. absorption. Say what you want, but I would rather my vet use ketamine and propofol, for instance, if that is what he is familiar with vs. a drug he is not familiar with, which will put a cat even more at risk...

So far my vet has been great! Ronin did great with them too. I'm very happy with them. I think my experience would be different with my old vet. They got too popular and we all have turned into nothing but charts to them. It's a shame. Glad I found an amazing vet who loves all animals!

I had some bad experiences with our vet but now that Jengo is neutered I'm not sure how many more vet visits we have in the future.

Our vet was really pushy about declawing - I think he wanted the extra money. We also never saw him when Jengo was neutered and I felt like staff was talking down to us when we had questions. We've never had a pet as an adult so neither of us had any experience with this and I realize I was probably being overly thorough but this is my baby and I want to know everything I can to make his life better.

I did find another local place that seems MUCH friendlier - although I don't know if Jengo will ever have to see another vet again.

My vet treated an ALC with two broken front legs. I suppose I should mention that. He got a good lesson on what a pissed ALC will do even with broken legs.
