What type of relationship do you have with your vet?

I have come to like my vet a lot. Local and cheap, only 5min away from my house, and also the same vet Keljin's breeder uses. The rapport and relationship is nice because ALL of the receptionists and vet techs know who he is, and they always tell me about the breeder "Oh Eric will be so happy to hear he is doing well!" and "oh I remember this little guy! WOW he has grown!" and so on. I think my relationships there are one of the biggest factors that makes me happy. It feels like family whenever I am there and they all shower Keljin with treats and playing with toys to make sure every visit is fun :)

Though as far as treatment goes instead of relationship, It took me 3 different vets (at that same location at least) to find THE one who I was happiest with. She has Bengals at home and recognized Keljin was a special case, and took the time to listen to my opinions and research.

Our experience has been rough. Due to Whips health issues as a kitten (broke 2 canine teeth before he was 1) and an absent breeder we spent a lot of time vet hopping. Our vet thought the first was a lost baby tooth, as Whips grumpyness made looking into his mouth impossible. Turns out more likely a calcium problem, but a year later all his others are fine, guessing the crap the breeder was feeding him migh have something to do with it, plus his sir broke a leg as a kitten.

Our biggest vet trip though was swallowed cat toy. Our vet and us have realized beyond shots, any trips in our boys need sedated. They don't do strangers outside our home well. (We had one vet refuse to do shots without sadation because whips vocal and hissy). Thankfully that's only happened once.

The one techs friend has an f1, so she loves our boys. We are the only and first savannahs they have delt with but they've done wonderfully, even if it takes 3 to cut Miracles nails. They just laugh and sigh a bit. He's a beefy strong squirmer, with slight pet cemetary like neck movements. Lol

I really like my vet and Keeba likes him too:) . My vet is easy to talk too, he's a good listener and friendly. He is all for raw and not giving vaccines every year. I've had emergency too with Pergie and they took him asap.

I think it very very important to find a vet you like and can trust. When your precious one is sick you need to feel like they will get the best of care, it's worrying enough that they are sick let alone feeling like you have to second-guess your vet.

I agree that the vet should not have to treat your Savannah any different from another domestic breed of cat. My vet hospital had never seen a Savannah when we got Bobo 11 years ago (they've seen a lot since as I recommend them all over the place!), and they find them no different. They are fond of saying that a Persian is more likely to bite them so they don't worry about the Savannahs. Maybe having seen so many means they don't react to their exotic looks, as I do think that there is more of a reaction to a "wild" looking kitty hissing than a soft fluffy cat hissing...

My vet won't use ketamine on any cat. I do think ketamine more dangerous in leanly muscled cats as dosing is by weight and assumes a level of body fat that will absorb some of the dose. If a cat is lean in build (like the Savannah) then there is less fat to absorb the drug so an overdose is more of a risk. So saying that, I would rather a vet use the anesthetic they are most experienced with...

My main vet is a dog person. He straight to the point, busy and I'm pretty sure he thinks I semi loco for having my cats. But he just is not a cat person, he raised labs back in the day and has pictures on the walls all labs even lab wallpaper

The vet techs are very nice and the lady vet who I always miss seeing is very young, percings and full as all the balls. Loves maine coons, and just coos over my boys. And I'm not sure if the young sweet hearted male vet is still around, I always loved getting him because he actually laughed at my jokes :)

Now the vet that is farther away is emergency 24/7. They are very nice have every utincle possible.

Ok - I see...I still don't buy the ketamine thing, but to each his own...I'm sure if you have raided 50 cats/kittens, you are bound to have an issue with any anesthetic along the way...
Well buying in to the ketamine thing or not is an individual preference but knowing the history and risk I would certainly not want to make a bet on coming out on the good end.

To clarify a bit. The contract merely warns a buyer against the use of ketamine but it is the owners choice on whether they choose to take that risk or not. I leave that decision up to the veterinarian and the buyer who owns the cat.
