No to sound ignorant, but what the heck would Savannah breeders be doing at a cat show, in a state, where they are illegal? Well, I hope they just brought brochures and information about the breed and not the cats. The cats could be confiscated and owners fined. Oooffff!!

Paige- the owner of this site- is at that show, Kim She is pretty knowledgeable about state laws.

What I believe is going on is that RI has a pass-through law which allows for visitors/exhibitors to come in and out for shows. At least, that is what was said- I'm sure Paige will elaborate on the reality of the situation shortly.

AR nuts- yes. But fortunately, we don't have any states with hybrid bans right around us (California, Utah, Arizona, etc).

AR has hit the dog shows repeatedly over the years.

This is Rhode Island and NO, the show as not enjoyable. I'm sure Paige will have a looong response once she gets home and settles down, but how can you enjoy a show when they are strutting down the aisles packing guns? What is wrong with states- they can't even afford the basic care of their own people, but they waste resources to ensure no wild kitty cats get out at a cat show. RIDICULOUS.

There's a heck of a lot wrong with this country right now but don't get me started!!!

It is perfectly allowable to bring a cat to a cat show in an illegal state, you just can't STAY there with it.

The issue at this show seems to be the need for every cat to have a health certificate, some new law that Rhode Island passed in 2012 and it seems they wish to crack down on...

Paige can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Savannah/Bengal people were just asked to leave the state.

So this new law was literally passed last year? What do they expect to get from it? I wonder about states and their waste of time passing silly laws. A health certificate basically means close to nothing a day after it was signed.

Yes, and it sounds like the officer was spouting nonsense... Paige was not there illegally. It has been pointed out that sometimes officers bluster and bully without actually having the right to enforce what they are asking you to do. She can't live there with her kitties but I don't believe that attending a cat show is counted as that. At least that is what TICA's lawyer seems to be saying on the list. They keep saying it is NOT a Bengal/Savannah issue at all.
