When to allow new kitten the run of the house?

I let the kitten tell me what he/she is ready for. For example, I have an F2 girl who has been here for a month. Just last week she started asking to leave our master bedroom suite. I tried to coax her out before and she just wasn't interested. Now she comes out, explores for a while and then goes back to 'her' room. I have other cats (and kids and dogs) so it's a lot for her to get used to and I'm letting her set the pace.

I've had other kittens and cats that were banging on the door the first day, wanting to play and explore. That makes for a lonnnngggg two weeks of quarantine, LOL!

I think 14 weeks is perfect to let babies out and about, but I tell it like this- my 3 year old is potty trained (human). BUT if he was busy and didn't have a potty nearby, there might be an accident from time to time. I like small babies to have multiple litterbox accesses to start with those first few months. That's just me- I think it's easier on the kitten. I figure they are like kids- they get busy playing and then they're like, "GEEZ- I have to go- NOW!" If there is a litterbox nearby, it makes it an easier decision for them to hop in and go versus in the laundry basket or anywhere naughty.

LOL Just know that being an only cat he wants to be with you. Just make sure the litter box is somewhere in the room you are in if he is running free. He will use it and still be where he can see you;>) Just love that little soul and know that he does not want you out of his sight;>) LOL
