Will a F1 destroy my house??

I don't have an F1, so I'm not much help. But I have to say, I LOVE those green chairs.

I think any cat in your house would be tempted to eat and play with your plant decorations! Other than that, your house is gorgeous and an F1 would love living there with you

I heard twice stories about rehoming a F2 mâle neurtured and "marking" in the house. Maybe it's exceptional or very stressed cats ??

Domestic cats are known to spray also... Savannahs can be known to exhibit behaviors that regular domestic cats do. This includes litterbox avoidance and spraying, which are things most feline behavior therapists get to deal with on a regular basis with ALL breeds of cat.

About the furniture: from the photos, you cannot tell what kind of fabric they are made of. After over 25 years of cat ownership I've come up with a pretty good system of telling if a cat will destroy your fabric (or carpet or whatever). Take a dental pick and pick at it. If you get pulls I the fabric, not good. Draw the pick over the fabric (not Really hard). If you get scratches in the fabric, not good.

I like your method, Barbja! I agree, there are some fabrics that are just so much fun for a cat to claw at... while yes the upholstery velvets and suedes don't seem to give the purchase so aren't so attractive. We had a couch that got clawed seriously when we first bought our house, it was our domestic girl but she was obsessed with that couch. She knew we weren't happy but just couldn't help herself...

And just for funsies, when you think about how high you would have to move stuff to keep it from being a curiosity, my F2s have a vertical leap of 8 feet and my F6 a vertical leap of 10 feet.

Ten feet?!! My cat tree is only 8.5 feet!

Dan, I do love your place, but as others have hinted, when you get a cat, don't assume it places any value on your items. I love the way your bookshelf/trophy case looks, but that's a ladder waiting to happen. Also you will be having black spots all over the floor near your fireplace fluke. I've heard that ferns are safe for cats, but I don't know about your other plants. And if you get a Savannah, they will make it their goal to get on top of your coat closet. Just sayin'.

The good thing is you have plenty of space for the any cat to run around in, including a Savannah, but the other side of the coin is an impatient kitty might not spend the time to find the litter box you've hidden away in some back room.

I can't speak for the shedding because my Savannah is only a kitten, but his hair seems to not be as attractive to my shirt as one of my Bengals.

Oh, and it would be impossible for people to not notice you have a F1 Savannah.

As to shedding, I do find that my Savannahs (of all generations but I do have two F1s in the house) shed less than your average domestic cat... they still have fur so they do shed though!

I find that shedding has a lot to do with the outcross used, I have not found it to be a problem with Savannahs per se.

My SV is outcrossed with some Bengal history, and I notice zero fur. All the domestic cats I had growing up I would leave hairs in my hands all the time when petting them and all over my clothes too, I never find Keljin's anywhere to be seen unless I try real hard! And his fur is so silky soft, softer too than any cat I have petted. I am really happy with the quality of his fur and low shedding and low maintenance Not sure if that is true to all SV's though
