Will our 6month old Savannah & 4 yr old Yorkie Ever Become BFF’s

We adopted an F6 female almost two months ago and our female Yorkie and her are still at odds. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the stare downs and chases can be very entertaining, but there is no calm, peaceful interactions EVER!!

They have finally gotten to the point of being 6” apart nose-to-nose for a period of time, but our Savannah just growls at her the whole time and one of them will dart away (cat) or lunge forward (dog). Typically, the Savannah is up high on her perch and the Yorkie is sitting at the bottom of it staring up at her ( and would do this for hours if we let her).

Any suggestions?? Terriers chase and cats run - we may never see peace. Lol

An easy thing to try (no guarantees) is to put a dab of vanilla extract on each of their noses. Try playing with both of them at the same time, side by side (this may take two people if available), or giving them treats at the same time. Any activity you can think of where they are side by side but receiving positive input may help them accept each other better. Another option is to clicker train them. Which one do you think is the instigator? Whoever that is would be the one I would work with first. https://clickertraining.com/node/1687

How did you do the initial introductions?

They are “friends” now. Well, they wrestle and chase each other and totally antagonize one another - so I think we are good now - “normal”.

I apologize, I never answered this question. Miss Di in Sparkles was quarantined to the Master Suite for the first two weeks at home. She still considers this area “hers” and “safe”. However, in doing this we created some animosity because now the master suite is off limits to the Yorkie. So in an essence, we created our own personal hell trying to do the right thing. One day we just decided to let them at one another (neither were going to hurt the other) instead of breaking them up and Miss Sparkles realized she wasn’t going to get eaten by the hyper Yorkie and all was well. Kitty’s fear and Yorkie’s hyper-ness and animosity just went away.
