Zeus DisLike for New Chesepeake Bay Puppy

MissyL

Savannah Super Cat
Zeus is a F3 Savannah male around 14 months old and 12 lbs. He dislikes the Chesepeake adult male dog Rocky who hides from him when they cross paths in enclosed areas inside the house. Rocky even stood upright behind the owners back and placed his paws on the owners shoulders.

Now my landlord has a 9 week old female chesepeake puppy and everytime Zeus sees it, it goes on full attack mode (hissing, striking, growling, crying) and its a full out ready to happen massacre. It is so bad but it seems like Zeus is possessive of the whole acre of land when I live in a inlaw and it perplexes me how much he hates these dogs.

He also hisses at my landlords but he lets strangers pet him including kids. He also doesnt mind horses and other cats/dogs outside of his home.

What can I do? I know this may seem normal, but I cant expect my landlords to put up with it. One of them has witnessed how sweet and loving he is with outside people.

HELP!!

He probably hisses at your landlords because they smell like the dogs he doesn't like.

Your options:
1. build/buy an outdoor enclosure for Zeus so he can be outside and not in contact with the dogs he doesn't like and keep those dogs away from the enclosure.

2. Do you let Zeus roam free over the property? If so, you should take him out only on a leash and only when the Chessies are not out.

3. If you actually share living space with your landlords rather than having your own an apartment, you'll have to make a room for Zeus only and make sure he doesn't come in contact with the Chessies.

4. You can try reintroducing Zeus to the dogs as you would introduce a new cat.

5. Move someplace where Zeus doesn't have the stress of being around those dogs.

Well he doesnt hiss at me when I have just petted the dogs.

I leash walk him around property away from the dogs. Plus I take him in a stroller everyday to the park and let him out there.

I live in an in law apartment so not directly in the same space.

I have thought about moving Jan 2018.

I just thought I would ask for tips to get him to not be aggressive to the dogs..sigh. He is a lil better with the big dog but it tool 9 months!

Well he may not like your landlords. My 4 are friendly to strangers 99% of the time but every now and then they meet someone who puts their hackles up. Mine especially hate anyone who smells like cigarette smoke.

Well he doesnt hiss at me when I have just petted the dogs.
He's smart enough to know that you're not bringing the dogs home and the landlords and dogs are, in his feline opinion, one and the same.

I'm not clear on what your landlord is having to put up with? Is there some reason why Zeus and the Chessy are continuously exposed to each other? Does the dog run free on the property? Why is your landlord around Zeus so much?

I suspect it would be difficult to try to 'reintroduce' them since the Chessy isn't part of your family and Zeus clearly knows this, but you could try (if your landlord is willing) and see if you can make any progress with bringing peace between the two of them. Please be careful though, I have seen Chessies do some terrible things to other animals (including other Chessies) and wouldn't trust one off leash.
