A Note to Buyers

I did see pictures of the higher generation SV's.. Wow, I am frustrated for this person because he/she got ripped off and now this person thinks every SV should be so cheap. The SV's are very low (sad) quality and are now going to be breeding..

I am a new breeder and am not perfect but, I will not rip someone off but I do not want to be or have anyone else ripped off. I wanted to know the breeder this person got the SV's from and I got stone walled. I asked but nothing.

Had to vent and thanks for letting me..

I wish that there were some way to get the person you had referenced to this site. I believe that you could spend years talking to this person, trying to help educate them on Savannahs and it is comendable the effort that you put into it, but it sounds like all you said was falling on deaf ears.

If this person could make their way to this site, they could learn so much that would help them be a successful breeder (at least I would hope they would - all the information they coud ever want or need is here).

I was not clear in my post, so let me clear this up...there is nothing wrong with emailing and calling a breeder, spending time, expecting a timely response, etc. I was referring more to buyers who call a breeder, say they want a kitten, make the breeders do everything but somersaults, such as scheduling flights, asking for a million photos and videos, and then give the breeder a lame excuse, such as "oh, sorry, I just found out I am allergic to cats" - that is a BS answer - just be honest...anyone can change their mind and that is ok...just be honest...if you found a savannah cat or savannah kitten you like better, say so.

And no, this has not happened to me (yet) - LOL! But it has happened enough to others, that I felt compelled to say something...but...to newer breeders...no backflips for someone unless there is a deposit...JMO. Backflips means scheduling flights, figuring out where to meet, etc. Pictures and videos and correspondence, of course!

Hope I explained a bit better!

Scott - you are right on...Sue, your situation is totally different and I hope one day it gets straightened out.

I pressed send before I commented. Sorry.

I had a customer who wanted me to drive 90 minutes each way to pick him up at the airport to "look" at the kittens. Then, he went to look at someone else's kittens closer to home. She drove nine kittens to some "neutral" location so he could see them. He had already committed to buy mine, but was taking advantage of us both. *wink, wink*. When I wouldn't send an up front contract for him to VISIT the kittens (?), I decided to keep my babies. He wanted the contract to say that he could buy any of my cats that suited him! Not just either of the two babies!

Wow, people... It is amazing. I will keep that one in mind. Thanks.

I can't comment on your babies as I have never seen them, but will say, what one person thinks is a crappy looking cat could be a great looking cat in someone elses opinion. I have never sold any of my babies as breeders, did do a trade one time though, so don't really know what the going price is for one, but I do think that $6000 for a stud is a little high. That of course is my own opinion :)

I'm going to have to agree. The most I would probably consider for a breeding male is about $5,000 - and I actually just considered that recently - although it didn't fit into my current budget (or lack there of!). *sigh* He was stunning.

Patty and Melody,

I am currently seeking the advice from a "mentor" I have used in the past. I sent pics and more info to see what that breeder would rate the cost at. I did offer the person a reduced price by 2K. I may be asking more than people can afford. I will adjust for the economy. I do not have a problem with that. I do appreciate the advice. I have albums in my profile. Check them out and let me know what you think. Please private msg me tho with your further thoughts. I would greatly appreciate it. :) Thank You.

I hope you didn't take what I said wrong. Like I said, I am out of the loop as far as prices for breeders. I am the worst one to give advice regarding pricing!

Sorry, but I have never, and would never spend more than $3500 for a breeding male - and it would have to be darned exceptional at that price!

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, promise! lol

I understand each and every person will have a different reality as well as a different amount of "wiggle room" in what they think is a reasonable price. It's our right to price our Savannah kittens as we see fit. I didn't mean to come off rude/upset/etc. (as we all know, text is so emotionless - yet sometimes we think the worst!) I just wanted to express the reality I have with purchasing a stud boy. I think $3500 is a good price for good quality. I would consider it a DEAL finding a good quality kitten under that price as well. :) I would also consider, as I did recently, spending more when more things you're looking for in a kitten come into alignment. There is no perfect Savannah, but there sure is that "perfect" one in our eyes as far as what we might be looking for in our programs. Just my two cents!

And Becky/Brett - your babies are VERY lovely! :) Keep up the good work!
