For anyone interested in Penelope Smith (I know some of you bought her Animal Talk book around Christmas time) she did an amazing webinar yesterday. Her Lilah is just like Zeddie!

Anyone heard regarding the situation with Dante the marking ragdoll? I have not heard an update so I wondered what was going on. I think part of her feeling like a stressed out cat owner is dealing with problems like peeing- not a numbers thing. It is a frustrating part of cat behavior. He may be just marking you to claim you as his own- he may still do this even if he is an only cat! Unfortunately inappropriate peeing is the number one adoption issue for cats. People will adopt any number of issue but that is a biggy! I feel bad :(
Kristin- I love your gift.

Hi Kelly,

I did end up rehoming Dante just a few weeks ago, and after leaving my home, he hasn't peed since. Yes, it was a frustrating part of cat behavior, 2+ years' worth, and after spending thousands making sure it wasn't a physical or medical problem, then progressing towards several different animal communicators (including Kristin, who is amazing!) I tried to do everything I could to convince Dante that I didn't need his "protecting" and "dominance" and toward the end he would actually not pee for a few days in a row. It was heartbreaking for me to rehome him, but I found the perfect person for him and felt like if I didn't do it then and there, I'd never have the chance again for the perfect placement. I cried for a week straight after, and still sometimes think I have more crying to do, but then I try to remember how stressful it was trying to clean my bed every day after he'd pee on it (some weeks it was every day of the week) or on me, the smell on the sofa (almost gone now), and especially watching him lash out at Duma or Desi randomly for no reason.

It wasn't a decision I took lightly and yes I do have regrets because I loved him and miss him so I have to remind myself of how bad it was and how stressful, and remember that he is so happy being an only cat, according to his new mom, she says she has fallen in love with him. And it wasn't an easy decision for her, either--I fully disclosed the issue, and she had some time to think about it, but ultimately she decided he was worth the chance. I don't think many people would take that sort of chance, to have their home peed on. The agreement with her though is if she is ever unable to care for him, he will come back to me because I still have a fear that he will end up in a shelter and if he pees, who knows what might happen to him. I'd rather have him here peeing on my bed than hurt or worse.

I feel bad too, I promise :(

You don't have to feel bad. We do what we think is best and you have to look at the big picture- better for you, better for him, better for the two cats. As a breeder, I can't keep everything, even those I really love dearly so they have to move on to a pet home. Recently I placed my mini aussies. I placed them because I knew I wouldn't have as much time for them once I get a real job as I used to have etc. A lot of the places I had to run them have now been sold and are off limits so they are stuck being house dogs and board. There just isn't enough of me to go around and hard as it is, it is better for everyone that they have a great new home out in the country with 40 acres to run. Is it easy to let them go, NEVER, but doing the right thing isn't always the easiest thing to do. :(

Awww, hugs to you. You tried so hard for so long. If he is happy and loved in his new home, then you gave him the greatest gift.
