Since I got Rasputin as a pal for Loki he has been less clingy and more happy all around. We use a facial pheromone plug in in my bedroom but it only moved the problem out of the room. I tried a comfort collar and it just made him more quiet but still peeing. I added more litterboxes and no difference then I added a few more and have a large litterbox in every single room it actually fixed the problem. They are all within sight of where he would pee anyways. Now he only pees if I don't clean the litterboxes at least twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night.

Oh no, he was doing so well in his new home. Did you ever try amitriptyline or other stress reducing medication on him?

Ok, I just read that amitriptyline is not really effective as an antidepressant but that what it does do is relieve the feeling of needing to pee. Will keep this in mind, just in case. Thank you!

I know I'm coming into the update late in the game what generation was Dante? How old what were his problems? Not sure which thread to read. Or how far back to go. is the peeing that big of a problem? was it the sole problem? I too have pee issues with my Loki bear. I actually came on here to inquire what Kristin thinks may be his problem. I may have solved it after much trial and error but still have occasional problems just not daily anymore. Maybe the new owner isn't suited to Dante if they aren't prepared to handle piddle problems. I would make it well known if you do have to find a new home for him. that way the next owner would know what to expect and have a little more patience. It is quite irritating but we love the don't we. It's like taking care of a toddler. those mischievous lil guys they know just how to tear at our heart strings

Hi Bekki, you can read most of the story here in this thread (or do a search on keyword Dante with posts by user Dantes), Dante is a Ragdoll, and one with an attitude, wanting to dominate even my SV, Duma. He just turned 4 yesterday, I had him from 9 weeks (too young!) and he started around 6 months, so it was over 2 years of dealing with the issue, I've tried almost everything.

I don't think it's about his new owner, she's really lovely and took him on even knowing he had problems. The deal with rehoming him was 1. full disclosure of his issues, 2. he must be an only cat, and 3. he must be returned if she can't deal with his issues--I do NOT want him to end up in a shelter under any circumstance.

So far she hasn't suggested giving up, it's more my anxiety about it that I was voicing, as I need to be prepared in case she does give up at some point.

Does she have any idea what could have caused this relapse? Anything unusual happen in the last day or two? I really thought that it was related to wanting to be the only cat.

Me too. She doesn't know, but she said that it happened either just before or just as two cleaning ladies came into the bedroom to change the sheets on the bed.

I gave her a list of things to look out for in case it happens again.

He could also be marking his new area figures he picks the place that smells most like his new momma. Or possibly he's mad at her for something?

I'm not sure why you're adverse to trying Prozac or similar anti-anxiety medication, it can do wonders for correcting inappropriate behavior. It doesn't work all the time but when it does it's a huge relief for cat and humans. As for affording it, it is generic and on the WalMart (and other pharmacies) $4 prescription list.
