I mainly have an ornamental garden but have some soft fruit strawberries/raspberries and blueberries and grow 'pretty' veg in with the flowers so beans and peas ...very English cottage garden style:)) unfortunately without the cottage to match. I love home grown toms but I find they take a lot of effort here in the UK best undercover and can't let them dry out or get too wet .
I am however lucky that we have some old woodland behind our house and there is a lot of great foraging to be found blackberries crab apples elderberries sloes ( most of which I turn to alcohol ) wild garlic ...I'm always on the lookout. It's kind of like veg gardening but without the effort ;)

That sounds very cool! What is a home grown tom?

Just found this thread. I love my gardens! Have tomatoes, corn, strawberries, eggplant, asparagus, you name it i have it. Lots or peppers including ghost and scorpion peppers. The cats love stalking the gardens for grasshoppers and moths (fun for me). Herb garden is overflowing. Last year we made 4 gallons of pesto and 12 gallons of hot sauce.

I have a 3 x 3 raised planter in which I grow beans, lemon cucumbers, beets, peppers, eggplant & carrots and I use pots to grow tomatoes. I am really excited, however, because I am currently redesigning the landscaping in the backyard and I'm going to have a small greenhouse and bigger better raised beds built. I have no self control when it comes to planting and usually have a big enough yield to feed the entire neighborhood. I prefer growing heirloom varieties of veggies. And I'm addicted to growing herbs, love herbs, must plant a bazillion herbs.
I love that raised bed...what a great design! I've been wanting to start a small vegetable garden in my backyard. It's a small yard, as part of it is taken up by an above ground pool, and a shed in each of the back corners. The previous owner had a little garden patch, but poured gasoline on it and burned it down at the end of the season before moving out. It's the best spot in the entire yard for growing, but I'm afraid of planting there because of the gasoline. I was wondering...if I planted a raised garden bed in that location, should I lay down a plastic barrier before adding soil, so as to avoid any root contact with the contaminated soil?

I forgot to ask you, Deborah, do you have any problem with rabbits in your garden? Do you plant any flower beds, too? More pictures, please!!! I just love your setup! :)
