I think eventually you are right, Rafiki... the light fixture and the tank are both irresistable to a kitten or cat with time on their hands... they may not do it immediately but eventually they are going to try it...

Xenaph, do you have to have the tank? I think you're just asking for trouble. Why not wait until you are in a house where you can put the tank in a room where the cat cannot reach it.
I was thinking the same thing. It's a disaster waiting to happen! Avoid all possible devastation ......DONT DO IT!

Our cats can jump seven feet to the tops of our cabinets. They do so regularly.

Mickey hangs from the ELOS by his front paws and balances on the edge and goes fishing.

The ELOS is made to withstand rougher treatment. If you hang a 15 pound SV from the rim of that little rimless tank, I would bet the silicone will give. I have had aquariums fail. If that happens you will have a very badly injured cat at best. At a minimum you need a braced tank with a rim.

I'm not proud of this, but I spent thousands of dollars to keep our boys safe once they got interested in the tank- which did not happen right away. We had smaller tanks 57g rimless and 45g before getting the boys, and they ignored the little tanks. Small rimless tanks can be unstable. Our 57g rimless oceanic was. We replaced due to the instability of the small tanks when they savannah stampeded through the house. The elos was a conscious choice, it is on a steel stand and seriously overengineerred. we have a cover made from a BRS kit. It has saved Mickey several times from "swimming" with the fish. We also have a Grounding probe, steel cables hanging lighting fixture, bolted to a structural beam, all equipment to run the tank in the basement. the fixture itself will disconnect before (god forbid) it hits the water.

I love our ELOS, and I'm way to far into the build financially to rip it down (too much $ to talk about), but if I had it to do over I would buy a classic tank with canopy or build in-wall.

We have a red sea max in our bedroom, and previously had a jbj. Both have hoods with all equipment contained therein. Consider one of these systems. Far safer IMHO.

..would you consider a piece of clear acrylic or glass as a cover for the tank?[/quote
Re: glass, Mickey knocked the glass cover for our braced 30g QT setup in the basement into the tank when he jumped on it, breaking it and almost hurting himself.
(he snuck down there after opening the basement door)
Most glass covers on rimless tanks rest on the edges with a small piece of plastic to balance. This is one reason why we got rid of our 57g rimless. If a cat jumps on top, the plastic brackets can't support it's weight. A piece of acrylic extending over the edge of the rimless glass might work, but please consider a hooded tank.

ADA tank is strongly silicone.

I need it, i need the tank to be patient and relax myself. I always have it, the tank were be there before Abbas.

The tank size is small (40G), light is steel câble ground on the beam and the J-prox. U used Toggle bolt as strong as 95 lbs pound.

Abbas is affraid of water, i tried but no chance. When i want give him à bath, it is à challenge.

All équipement worth over 3K $.

I have paravent (72" hight) i will try to built something to put front of his "solid"
