Paul, Trupanion pays out the most - 90%...I did an analysis of all the pet insurance companies before choosing Trupanion.

Waiting period is usually 14 days... so you would have to feel comfortable with the idea of not taking him in for an exam for that period of time.

I think we should now start a pet insurance thread!

Well, seeing that this whole situation has kind of negated the contract part of taking him to the vet in the first 3 days, I would say that I would feel comfortable with waiting the 2 weeks to feel more secure for him and my wife and I. That sounds like a good idea. I am looking at Trupanion right now and that looks like a great company.

Yes, I do think it would be great to start a pet insurance thread! Especially for us hybrid owners who have the need for it. Great idea Alisha.

I was thinking the same thing, Alisha! Go for it!

I thought you needed to take him in to verify said heart murmur, Paul? When does the breeder want him seen? I would think she has a set amount of time in mind.

I just emailed her asking if she thought it would be OK to wait the 2 weeks. I'm sure I will get a reply soon as she is on her way back from the airport

Yes, same thing with trupanion.

If you do pet insurance- do it BEFORE the initial vet visit. Otherwise, they will NOT cover preexisting conditions. It is fairly cheap for a cat his age. It goes up as they get older obviously, they have more needs. That would be a brilliant idea especially in his case but if he lives a long life, you may be better off just having an extra credit card available for him or a Savannah reserve account. You may want to have the pet insurance the first year until you know how treatable his heart issue is then decide from there. My experiece with them is that there are a lot of loop holes.

Yes, Kelly. Most definitely. I have asked for the breeders permission to wait the 2 weeks for the coverage to kick in before taking him to his first vet visit. I am just waiting for her reply because she is driving back from the airport at the moment.
