We just found out our 17 year old dog (sorry -OT) had tapeworms! Everyone here gets Revolution punctually, so I never considered tapeworms. He had no symptoms at all. It was for his annual senior work up! Now, how should I proceed? The dog does go in and out and is beloved by the cats. (Read : TARGETED)

what did the vet say?

LOL...I would suggest giving everyone Drontal and then keep using the Revolution;>)

I'll get the farm vet to bring it to do the sheep also. They're too strong for me these days. The cat vet thinks he probably got it from eating something dead outside since she's never seen a flea on any of my animals. She suggested testing one of the cats and that she didn't expect the cats would come in contact with any excrement from the dog and would prefer not administering something if she didn't need to do so. Sheep dogs will get it, too.

If they have never had a flea...it would have to be from eating something that had;>) If you are not seeing the tapeworm segments in the stool...they probably are not infected.;>)

I hope your little guy bounces right back and is as good as gold soon! Do you have any pics to post of him?

The baby boy (Zuberi) has started to improve over the weekend. Still keeping a close watch on him but the pro-biotics seem to finally be helping! Here are some pictures of him. These are the few that turned out because most are blurry- he never stays still long enough!

He's adorable, but...

Not but about being adorable- that he is- but I'd possibly ask your vet about simply treating for giardia even if you don't do the full Idexx panel. Seems to me giardia is one of the more common parasites that fecals DO NOT pick up- and the symptoms are diarrhea and extended belly. It can wax and wane- the stress of the flight could have brought it on (the diarrhea) and now that he's settling in, with the probiotics, etc, it might have settled back into dormancy for now.

At least- keep it in mind if he starts back up with runny poos... I've seen this a million times with the Sphynx community so I know way too much about crap.
