$85/day! Holy smokes! When I dog sat the most I charged was $25/day and I still had people trying to haggle

I pay my sitter $85/day. She isn't grossed out by feeding whole prey, walks 4 cats, vacuums up the litter, plays with them for a couple of hours a day, mops the floors, and visits the cats at least 4 times a day. All other sitters in my area charge $35 per visit which consists of 1 hour in which they feed, clean litter, and supposedly play with/walk the animals. My sitter is a bargain compared to the services she offers versus what the other sitters offer.

Moving Louie to a new environment for a couple of days without you around sounds very traumatic. If he is in familiar surroundings, he only has "the stranger" to deal with. He may go on a hunger strike and he will probably destroy a few things but being in a totally strange place with strange smells.....yikes! Is there anyone that Louie has spent time with other than you?

We boarded Sasha for a few days and he came back with a sneezing allergy and was so miserable that it broke my heart when I left him there. Now have a pet sitter, found her on Pet Sitters Intl. She's insured, bonded and has her background checked by the site. She checks on him twice a day, sends updates and pics and keeps a daily journal, walks him, feeds Sasha and the fishes and cleans the litter and charges $40/- per day visit.

But most important part was Sasha adores her and even though this was the first time she met a savannah she was in love with him!

My furkids are on raw so it is imperative that I have someone there twice a day. I seem to recall that Louie was on a commercial diet.....how often is he fed?

When I spent $85/day, that sitter lived over 30 miles away so it was $65 per night plus $20 travel.

The kid that used to take care of them was paid $20/day (a neighbor and it was hard to convince him to take $ at all). I would much rather pay more and have the piece of mind that they are well taken care of.

My new sitter is a bargain at $40/day for 2 visits. She is certified in pet CPR, can give meds, is fully bonded and insured and had a background check done. And......she LOVES animals and it is obvious!

He sees my mother about once every 2 weeks, but he's not completely comfortable with her. He will eventually come to her, but I always have to remind her to curb her enthusiasm and just sit quietly until he's good and ready to come over and sniff her. Problem is, is that she's elderly (88) and lives 15 miles away from me by car.
My trip involves 8 hours driving to get there. One night's stay in a motel, a full day for me in a transmission shop with an immediate drive home that night for 8 hours. I'd like to take him but need advice on whether or not he'd be more stressed by this, or not. He tolerates driving in the car very well. Not a peep out of him, and he just seems to be "zoned-out" but calm in his crate. He doesn't react to anything so I'm thinking that this is typical cat behavior of catatonia while traveling. (?)
The motel stay shouldn't be a problem, as I'll lock him in the bathroom overnight to avoid him damaging stuff in the room. Of course, I'd remove all the towels, toilet paper and possible shower curtain from the bath as long as he's in there. I don't know what to do with him while I'm occupied in the transmission shop.

The last time I was away from him was in August 2013 when he was only 10 months old. This is the time that he urinated on the carpet when the young lady came in to care for him. He is now 26 months old and as he gets older, he is taking on more of the personality traits that the breeder told me that he would have. They "nailed" it pretty good: he will follow you around like your shadow. He will be completely devoted to you. He will not take to strangers.

He used to be more tolerant of "strangers" but less and less as time goes on.

He's fed 2x/day but that can be changed to double ration once/day for the 2-3 days of my absence.

So we are basically talking about being gone 2 full days plus 1 overnight and arriving back home very late. Not very long in the overall scheme of things.

Do you have a largish room that he could be confined to so the damage could be minimized and the sitter could definitely know that he is OK?

My current cats do not travel well but it sounds like Louie might be OK. I remember you asking about the odd zoned out reaction. I have never seen that - mine have always either loved going in the car or screamed bloody murder and panted during the entire journey. When you have taken him in a car, how is he upon arrival? Does he quickly return to his normal self or does he seem traumatized? And, like you, I am not sure what to do with him while you are at the transmission shop. Leaving him for 8 hours in a foreign environment without you there sounds scary.
