Breeder Recommendations

I made the unfortunate mistake of following this thread through to find out that the "new"ish owners of A1Savannahs, who seem to be mostly breeding/selling Servals these days (according to what I see on their website that mostly doesn't work, unless the problem is my internet connection which is possible), are heavily involved in sport shooting of "exotic" cats???

I am so sick to my stomach right now. It was bad enough when we had prospective serval owners coming here looking for vets to do 4-paw declaw sick:!!!???!!!) but to think that all those servals that they're selling are being sold to be abused by 1. people who just want to shoot them for sport, 2. people who have no idea what owning a serval is about, which will no doubt end in horror for the poor serval, and 3. people who think abusing cats is fun. Because if selling servals is your business and you don't care about anything but making money, then that's where these cats are going.

These people should NOT be allowed to own this business. DISGUSTING. Why can't something be done????

And this is beyond the whole selling of sick cats, which does nothing but point back to their disgusting business practices.

I highly doubt the new owners of A1 savannahs are selling/breeding servals...they cannot even breed savannahs...

Joyce Sroufe bred servals and the Stuckis may have bred servals, but not many, as far as I know...

There are many serval breeders who are in it for the money and some of the largest serval breeders are NOT in OK...

I don't mind facts being posted here, but I do not want supposition and theory posted on this forum as fact...

The owners of A1 Savannah also own Centerline firearms and middle man hunts to Africa and in their pictures he is holding a dead caracal with a rifle slung to he back grinning, Trish and maybe Brigitte also have seen the picture, I think the caracal was trapped due to them being nocturnal hunters, I have hunted but I don't shoot something I can't use. The picture is down now but it really pissed me off. Didn't someone here get a kitten from A1 with a free case of ringworm???

I got my two SVs from A1 this summer. They both suffered from Ringworm, but I listened closely to advice from forum members and was able to defeat it. Thanks again everyone!

If you want my threads you can search Heartbroken (read all the way through to understand the full situation). Then look up Now Presenting Yuki and Yeti for insight on the ringworm and other stuff.

For me it eventually worked out well, but it was a difficult start.

So here are the salient facts, IMHO:

New owners of A1 Savannahs also operate Centerline Firearms which offers trophy hunts in several countries. People who are interested in purchasing from A1 savannahs will have to determine for themselves whether or not there is a conflict of interest between trophy hunting/cat breeding.

There is some concern that the new owners are deficient in the knowledge, skills, and training required to breed savannahs. People interested in buying from A1 should be thoroughly schooled about the breed in order to ask questions of the owners the answers to which will either make one comfortable enough to purchase or make one choose a different breeder.

I can't go there to see in person, but if you check their kittens page you'll see "Servals" and "available" and a list of servals sold. So it's not supposition and theory, it's what they *themselves* claim. If they don't want to claim that, they should change their page. Edit: it looks like now it says "contact for availability" but earlier it said available, same as the SBT category.

Whether or not they are capable of actually breeding, they are certainly capable of brokering such deals which is just as scary.

Hey Tort, I remembered your post but I could not find it, but I am glad your kittens recovered and I hope you and the kittens are doing very well now that the ringworm is gone !!!

And the last owner of A1Savannahs brokered a number of kittens (so bought from other breeders to resell), so it's reasonable to think that the new owners are aware of this possibility for their business.

Although so saying that, I think there was a drama with a breeder in FL that had a deal with the previous owners to supply kittens and the new owner didn't want to continue the deal and that FL breeder was left holding the kittens to sell herself. So maybe they have decided not to continue the brokering arm of the business...

The theory and supposition comes in when you speculate as to who servals will be sold to...enough said about this.

I believe time will take it's toll on A1 and they will fold , As a gun collector centerline firearms are overpriced, they are fishing for suckers on the firearms market, next it will be at A1,used cars, cats, and guns, 2 day guaranteed ,bottom line is get a good breeder and get a good kitten !!!
