Broken Hip, Orthopedic Surgery Tomorrow

Yeah, definitely can't wait to get on my way. Woke up at 4am in anticipation and a food deprived Chongo wouldn't let me go back to sleep. He didn't want to eat at all before his cut off time and just wanted to play play play. Another successful escape attempt last night and judging from the departure speed, I am really having a hard time believing that everything isn't come up roses this morning.

Certainly still a bit of anxiety, but cautiously optimistic. Just need to keep everything framed in the thought that we did the very best we possibly could.

Also a balmy 7 degrees this morning so I don't think we will be playing in the snow, or at least not for very long if it doesn't warm up. Also placed an elevated storage tray in our Jeep which I'll bungee his carrier to so he can see outside. He doesn't ever seem to mind being at the vet, but definitely doesn't like the ride getting there. Hopefully that helps.

Home from the surgery center and nothing but good news. The pins in Chongo's hip are exactly where they placed them and the bone is well heeled. No issues with blood supply through the growth plate and he'll be freed from the crate.

They gave me a list of limited activities for the next few weeks and pretty much as I was planning. Limited access for the first couple of weeks on a single floor followed by whole house access after. The vet said if you see signs of him tiring or limping as the scar tissue works it way out try to keep his activity level down. To that I could only laugh and as soon as he was home he immediately jumped on some things higher than his normal repertoire.

For instance after spending some time playing in the snow when he decided to make a dash for the front door, he immediately jumped on a portion of the window frame at head high level (about 6'). I guess he had a secret workout regimen beyond what I saw.

Anyway, some pictures this evening although I wasn't able to take as many as I had hoped at the surgery center. Things just happening too fast and too many other things I needed to pay attention too.

Thanks again for all the well wishes and guidance, it certainly paid off.

Awww, I got choked up about your good news. So very very happy for you & Chongo. It was a long road for you but with the best possible outcome. Time for you to celebrate -- take a bottle of champagne to bed with you tonight. I'm sure you are looking forward to getting reacquainted with your mattress.

I've been following your posts closely. I'm so happy to hear things have turned out as well as they have.

Here are a few photos from the day,

Chongo in the snow, finally a photo that has him slowed down enough to have his whole body in it.

After Chongo first gets inside the house and I guess this remnant of a cat toy attached to one of the trees had been haunting him for the last 8 weeks.

Finally the realization Pixie was in the room and the end of our photo session.

Awww....Chongo is so gorgeous, and the reason we are able to enjoy the pics today is a testament to your great care of him while he was in "prison"....:) Great job!

Nice pics! Happy to hear he will be tearing the house apart! (So you think you will be getting some sleep.... I'm not so sure by the looks of the pictures! I have seen that look in his brothers' faces!):)
