Thank you for this. I really hope you can get the Texas kittens out. I really just cannot understand the greed involved in this cruelty. I am sickened by it. Please keep us updated. Is there anything we can do? I am in Cincinnati.

@Lesley - nothing you can do really, but thank you...perhaps when the time comes we can all donate to help the kittens...I will keep you all updated.

I think deborah, that in the Texas case, had the breeder who sold the cats to this guy, listened to me when I messaged him two weeks ago, we may have been able to get the guy to STOP and SV Rescue could have, perhaps, been able to get the cats out of there...

Breeders in Texas need to stop breeding, unless they have a USDA license. Texas is just too unpredictable with too many laws that ban exotics and DWA's...

As for the ohio situation...the breeders who sold to this guy are refusing to now help him. I know because I spoke to one of them...they do not want to deal with sick cats in their own catteries, which is understandable, but...how about then helping in another way...he is another one who should not have been sold to. I mean one of the breeders sold him 15 savannahs for $1500 - none s/n - WTF???

This a;; just makes me so furious...I now do early S/N and it is partly for this very reason and and also based on my own research about the benefits.

I agree 100%. 15 SVs for $1500. WTF is up with that? There should be blowback from that sort of thing.

I myself would like to know precisely what guidelines breeders are asked to follow before placing a kitten to a new home. What tests are required and preformed for the breeder to use the verbage "healthy cats". Is their a difference between what the breeder is REQUIRED TO TEST FOR & what a true breeder in love with what he or she does and goes the extra mile to ensure the highest quality of health of the kitten before placement.

MM3 - what happened to your avatar? Can you upload some kind of picture?

There is nothing required of breeders basically...depends on the breeder and size of cattery...for instance, Dia just left for his new home yesterday...I had a health certificate from vet, stating he is healthy, has had his vaccines and was dewormed...I have a very small cattery with no HCM (Zuri is tested), no FeLV - all cats are tested, so I do not test my kittens for that...I do not have sick cats and would never sell a sick kitten.

I have taken the responsible breeder oath from TICA and live by it. I can vouch for every breeder who advertises here as well...I trust every one of those breeders or they would not be allowed to advertise.

It's the defenseless kittens that always suffer. It's just not RIGHT or fair!!

Its terrible. Honestly disgusts me to think of what these 'breeders' are doing. They are the type of breeder the new bill should target. Its not about having one female or four, its how you treat them. I know you cannot 'write' a bill that way but it seems under the new guidelines, both of these breeders would be ok

How can I help? I don't want others to get caught in the same trap I was ensnared into. At least if I have to rehome Havi my son lives in a county in Texas where Savannahs are legal with permit so that's where she would go. Hope it does not come down to this as I would miss her terribly.

I'm friends on FB with someone who unknowingly purchased a sick kitten from one of the "breeders" mentioned. I've encouraged her to call and report the abuse to the proper authorities. I'm praying that someone shuts him down, and rescues those precious babies. Their safety is first and foremost, but I also think he needs to be prosecuted. People who refuse to seek veterinary care, and knowingly sell sick kittens have no business owning animals, let alone make a business out of it. It's people like him that cause heartache for everyone.

If I call to report my case will I stand to lose my sweet Havi? Was told that she had diarrhea and fleas when I got her and that I should call revival animal health and get something used to control diarrhea in goats from Tractor Supply. Well instead I took her to the vet and found out lots more than a visit to Tractor Supply could handle. I just assumed she needed to be dewormed. Not so. I would not mind being called to testify in the animal cruelty case if necessary, but I would have to take my kitten to my son's first as he lives in a county where SVs are legal with permit.
