JUST NOT HAPPENING IN TEXAS. Also in Pennsylvania, breeders are not required to preform stool testing for parasites before placing kittens to their forever homes. Stated on the contract "healthy kitten" that couldn't be further from the truth. My little one has suffered from having runny stools, passing blood, hiding from me knowing she is going to get RX and literally choking on what must be awful tasting compounds. When I emailed the breeder after getting results from PCR ( which showed 5 different ones) he said I MUST OF GIVEN HER TAP WATER. HIS CATS ARE ONLY GIVEN BOTTLED WATER. And that is EXCATLY WHAT HE SAID!! 6 months have passed and he has never called or emailed to see how my little kitten is doing. Not to mention the Extreme case of ear mites, this poor little girl has been through SO SO MUCH!
WHY SHOULD BREEDERS BE ALLOWED TO AVOID SUCH AN IMPORTANT TEST? Who wants to receive a kitten with parasites? It's not fair to the kittens.
We have spent hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get my little one well. Right now we are waiting for second PCR test results.
I think something should be changed so this loop hole is no longer ALLOWED!

@MM3 it is unfortunate that there are unscrupulous breeders, and it is one of the reasons why the new USDA/APHIS rule was passed last fall. The reality of the situation is that the new ruling will only hurt honest and ethical breeders, it will do nothing to curtail those dishonest breeders who are only out for a buck. They will continue to operate the same way as they always have. This is one of the reasons this forum exists - to help educate, inform, and yes - provide references when necessary for those purchasing new kittens.

Bottom line - as with anything in life, there is no such thing as a good deal when purchasing a Savannah - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks for your response. This is one of the many delights of this forum. I am anxious to learn about the rule that was passed last fall. And dreadfully sad of the reality that breeders can continue to turn a blind eye and innocent kittens suffer when it CAN be remedied and avoided. But because it's not the breeder who has / had constant diaherria for 6 months and passing blood it's not dealt with. I had to stop thinking about how many kittens under his LACK OF SUPERVISION & CARE are suffering, all those thoughts were affecting my health. And I could not do doo-doo ( pun intended) about it. All those precious little helpless kittens. As I have mentioned before the breeder has NEVER contacted me to inquire about my little girl. On the extreme opposite her vetranarian called me yesterday at 6 p.m. On NEW YEAR's Eve to talk to me personally about results of second PCR test and to inquire about status of stools. So he would know which direction to continue since the test was not all negative. We return home in a few days will go in to his office to discuss next step.
I have also heard the term you mention" if it sounds to good to be true". Not sure what that term is referring to, but our kitten is an F3 and she was not inexpensive!
I am in agreement with another post saying that exposing these breeders instead of hiding them and letting the information be public. I don't have any reservations on doing so, do I just post the name of breeder and info here?

I have supported Savannah RESCUE twice in the last 2 months and I am one of the first to give a donation in the new year, if you at chat like the Savannah cat breed and can help donate, some people see breeding the Savannah cat as easy money, I sent $100 to help save the Savannah cat from poor breeding

I sent in weeks ago requesting information on donating, I would be more than happy to contribute but I don't do PayPal. I received no response to my inquiry.

Savannah Rescue will take visa, master card , I use pay pal because it's easy and some of my bills are auto paid this way.

Breeders are not required anywhere that I know of to perform fecal testing...I have never had any type of stool issue in any of my cats and they are tested, so I do not feel the need to do fecal testing on my kittens, although I do deworm them...

The main thing is to buy your kitten from a reputable breeder...and issues do arise in every cattery - it is how the breeder deals with the issues, that is important...

I'm not sure why you didn't receive a response to your inquiry. There are several SV Rescue personnel on this forum, hopefully one of them can help you out!
