I just remembered that option and suggested it on the SavannahKittens list... I've never used that option myself but think it a good one if worried about being able to safely hold the kitten. Better to have the delay that this likely causes (I imagine they don't organize the room and inspection too swiftly) than to lose the precious kitten in the airport. Hate reading those stories :-(

It takes about 3 minutes, Brigitte. Nothing to organize in the room. They quickly inspect the carrier and frisk the cat if it's wearing a walking jacket and you're on your way.

I just know that when traveling with my husband, he always refuses the scan hence has to have the pat-down and they always seem to take forever to get someone to do that... good to know you didn't have to wait too long for the room!

You can't compare the service a furry, bespotted, bewhiskered, cute cuddly wuddly kitten gets to what a human gets. Humans cannot compete. As soon as they spied the kitten in the carrier, I was surrounded by a gaggle of oohhing and aahhing TSA female employees who quickly herded me into a room just so they could see the cat. LOL.

I think you may have been fortunate...I've had that experience but I've also had the security folk freak out because either (1) it looks "wild" or (2) they are scared of cats and I had to wait until some other agent could man the scanner thingy before I was allowed to walk through with my 3 month old kitten! It always depends on the TSA agent(s) you get...
