I was wondering if the experts here might provide some feedback as to what features in particular I'm looking for to make sure a camera is "Savannah-friendly"?

That looks like a very nice point and shoot. It has all the bullet points you'd look for in a fast camera. The lower the aperture number the more light the camera will be able to take in, and therefore, the less time the shutter has to be open to get a properly exposed picture. The secondary factor to consider is how well the camera handles noise at higher ISO's. This also allows a brighter exposure if the grain is negligible. Hope this helps.
