Thanks Ditto Girl for enjoying my long rambling stories. There does seem to be a lot going on with cats we don’t fully understand! Who sniffs who’s butt does seem to be a thing, and for how long. I would imagine any older cat, especially one with an average energy level would find a young Savannah challenging! And I wonder what is going on with them when they roll around on the ground. They really seem to enjoy this!
Frozen mice are usually available at a pet food store, but in my area they are $5 to $6 each, and not something I can regularly afford, except as a rare treat. Luckily my house and the enclosures are well stocked with an ever replenishing supply, and that particular mouse was one HB caught out in one of the enclosed areas. HB used to be very generous and bring WC what he caught, wanting to share, but then WC began very aggressively stealing everything from HB. HB just lets him and either looks sad, or gives him the stink eye. And sometimes I think he enjoys watching WC play with a mouse that has died and is no longer interesting. But he never fights him. Instead, later or another day HB will go sit/ lay on top of him and groom him and bite his neck. As if HB would like to control him better.... WC often enjoys or sleeps through HB’s efforts to show him who is boss, which is cute.
The other day out in the fenced yard HB caught a young, but substantial sized rabbit, which WC stole from him, and I stole from WC and put in the freezer. They can share it after it has been frozen a few weeks, and I cut it in half, as freezing eliminates many parasites. However, they both get regular parasite treatment, as they regularly manage to catch and eat mice, especially at night while I sleep. (Rabbits are a recently introduced species here, and they can quickly destroy people’s food gardens, so I was glad they got this )
