Let me throw out another option~ a catwalk! We put up carpeted shelves around our living room, to take advantage of the unused space, the kitties love it and it saves floor space in our small house! You are only limited by imagination, we have added hammocks, ramps and window shelves over the years.
I have a row of bookcases across one wall in my living room and just purchased a tall desk hutch that I put against another wall which the cats love. I have one cat tree positioned at the end of the bookcases, and just purchased a new tree to put next to the hutch so that it's easier for them to get up to the top. Not all of my cats seem to care about vertical space, but a few of them are obsessed with being as high up as they possibly can.

Very cool! I like the ay you put alternating shelves o the walls. I did this also but a bit differently...same concept. used wood, batting and fleece or sherpa...here are some pics...added two poles for climbing...lots of vertical space. The pics don't contain the second poll yet and I will be getting rid of the cat tree/condo and replacing with a new one.

I like the Amarkat type trees although they do seem to need replacing after a few years of hard wear... I look for the models with three to four posts at the base not two though, as when your cats are larger sized and hit the tree at speed it is more stable with four corner posts than two at the base :)

http://www.squarecathabitat.com/ is a really interesting company...I recently purchased the Baobob cat tree and love it, it seems sturdy and resilient but of course hasn't been tested for years yet. The carpet in the shelves is replaceable which I like and it has a very modern look to it...and easy to clean.

I'm a big fan of the cat shelving idea. Our outdoor enclosure has shelves at different levels around it and the cats love to leap from one to another. And just installed some shelves in our TV room and they love to lay there and watch with us in the evening :)

Anybody have this one or know of anything about it, from the few reviews I've seen it gets decent ratings, but I need to know if it's SV or Bengal proof.... Thanks

It's called just redwood cat tree

Great! Let me know about the wood Armakat. I looked at those and liked the look, just wondered how the cats would react.

Ok - so I am setting up the Armakat made out of wood and it is very nice and sturdy with faux fur covering that is removable and washable. They need to send me a replacement part for one of the shelves that is cracked and I will be able to finish up. It is this one: http://www.armarkat.com/premium-solid-wood-cat-tree-s8901/ - it is halfway finished, so will give an update once it is completed and kitties are using it.

I like the baobob, but needed one that was much taller, so went for the armakat...same concept, with washable faux fur coverings for the shelves. I have used armakat trees so successfully in the past, that I have no problem replacing my current with another one. time will tell ;)[/quote]

I have a new cat tree coming soon, I will have to post a pic once I have it assembled.
