Cat Tricks

That's awesome, I really want to teach Shelby how to fetch and sit also! One trick at a time I suppose lol

You hit the nail on the head Scott. It is the high praise and the constant reinforcement that help these guys learn. I taught Abu to fetch by just tossing his favorite toy for him. Instinctively, he chased it down. And I praised him, went and got it and and threw it again, and again the praise and petting him. I didn't use any treats, just praise and petting him. After some repetition, I stopped going to get it and held back the praise. Because I had stayed where I was and didn't praise he came to me to see what the heck, then I praised him like crazy. A day or two more of this and he was fetching easy as that. It was harder to teach him to drop it than it was to teach him to fetch.

Now my ankles get a swat if I don't throw his toy for him when he brings it to me. Seriously, he accidentally drew blood yesterday as he is still working on the no claws thing. I told the kids to use the phrase "paws NO claws" when he uses his claws, he is starting to learn.

Sorry Paige, I still owe you a video ... As soon as I can =}

My male Bengal (Tully) and occasionally his sister, Samsquantch, play fetch... The SVs can't seem to get over the "You threw the toy I was playing with over there, jerk, you f@#^ing get it!";)

Thank goodness it's not just my cat! lol! i thought I was doing something wrong - Jengo loves to chase things if I throw them but never brings it back when I ask him to and when I take it from him - your description is exactly what I get!

Jengo's tricks consist of coming out of hiding if I sing his song, playing peek-a-boo, chasing me and taking a treat from shoulder.

His best tricks include: jumping on the counters and refrigerator - I didn't even have to train him to do that ;)

By far the most exciting trick was the first time he used the litter pan, we were very excited about that, lol!

Pharaoh loves to play fetch. We taught him to do it in about a week. Now every morning before work I have to spend a half hour or better playing fetch with him or he gets upset. He has his toy sitting my my slippers next to the bed every morning, And should i not get up ill find the toy placed on my face and him whining for his play time!

Im fairly certain im his servant not master.

Todd, that's hilarious! I can just picture a little toy being shoved into my sleeping face waking me up, as cute as it sounds, I'm sure there's more than once that you're like BE QUIET, I'm TRYING TO SLEEP!!!! lol

Thanks Paige, I'm so happy. I'm astounded every day more and more at how smart he is! You always read how "Dog-like" sv's are, but now I totally see why. They really are!
