Cleaning house after FIP

I would spray down the entire house with vinegar - be sure to get at least 4% strength (5% is better) and simply put it in a spray bottle, mist away, and let it dry. It's stinky but it's a safe and effective disinfectant that reportedly kills 99% of bacteria and 80% viruses and mold.

I don't believe that you have to go to any extreme in cleaning. A good thorough cleaning never hurts but FIP is not really contracted that way anyway. I have heard vets tell people not to bring in another cat for up to 6 months which I really think is ridiculous. I had purchased a kitten that after the 2 week quarantine was allowed access to the rest of my house along with kittens, young adults and some adults all in at the time. Unfortunately, he passed away a few months later of FIP but I left him in the house with all of the rest as I don't believe it is catchy that way and it definitely was not as none of mine ever got sick. Poor little guy, they all seemed to sense that he did not feel well and they all loved on him and did not play rough with him. He slept most of the time and was very quiet. I am really really sorry for your loss as it is pretty tough to lose a kitten this way. tri sad:

I didn't go on a particular cleaning frenzy after losing my angel Z to FIP, but then she'd already been living with the other cats...if there was Coronavirus to share it was shared long before she developed FIP ( the FIP form is not shed from the feces like Coronavirus normally is). So it is a little different from your case.

It depends on if the cleaning is therapeutic for you, it seems you've done a lot already and likely that is enough. Think also if the new kitten is coming from the same cattery, chances are it has already been exposed to Coronavirus. Mostly it is a matter of whether they have a good healthy immune system ...

20-1 Water/Bleach solution and heavier 10-1 Water/Vinegar solution is what we used a few years back when all three of our cats were sick at once. We threw away all their non-ceramic dishes, litter boxes and toys we couldn't run through the washer. After pulling the stuffed toys still damp out of the washer, we put them in the Microwave until they began to steam.

Not sure it really did anything outside of giving us peace of mind. Each cat got better after 5-7 days, with one having an overnight vet stay. Just a real mess with none of them being able to hold their food down. Fortunately two of them were still taking on water through the ordeal, and we were already seeing the beginning of recovery from the first to get the virus when the other two were stricken.

It sounds like you have the really important things taken care of, food dishes, toys and the litter boxes. Those should be the primary points of concern. The rest is just adding to your own comfort level and as mentioned before, definitely therapeutic.
