Playing in the water dish is the only habit I wish simba would stop. I've resorted to only leaving a quarter inch of water in the bowl. I would love some ideas on how to stop this.

Sirius is horrible with food and water. He used to dig the food out of the bowl and place it in a separate pile to eat it. He would then drink water with a mouth full of dry food. It was every time he ate. Yuk.. We did get a fountain and he loves it and NO food in it since.

I have several other animals so leaving the water at that level won't work for me as my dog would drink all that in a heart beat and not leave any for the other pets. I'm hoping that in time Zeus will grow out of this.

Until then it is kind of funny watching him trying to run through the puddle of water (reminds me of the old Tom and Jerry cartoons that I watched as a kid where Tom would try to run on ice ;) )

Mine all try to bury the food dish when done. Tiger loves to pull out the filter inside the fountain and play with it. I cant believe Tiger can take it apart to get the filter out. It is under a cover and put in a slot that takes me 5 minuts to put back in. I am still in shock how well they can figure something out.

For the garbage issue I have put a few bricks at the bottom of the can before I put the bag in, that helps keept them from knocking them over, but doesn't completely solve the problem, so in my office I have the tall kitchen garbage cans that just fit under my desk - have to pull them out to use, but they don't get knocked over - and in my bedroom I use a bungee cord to secure the lids.

As for the food and water, I have them sitting in plastic containers, e.g., underbed storage containers that are about 7 inches high, which seems to help keep the food and water from spewing across the room.

Kovu is actually pretty good.. Sarabi on the other hand has turned into a holy terror. She opened the freezer (NO IDEA how that happened) & took out some turkey sausage the other night, ripped up the package & left only a chunk of it at my door in the morning.

I can say knock on wood i havent had issues with water or trash cans with my savannah. HOWEVER Fountain soda cups with straws is another subject matter all togather. I swear the second he sees the cup with a straw in it the mission has started. He wont stop till he owns the straw, and if i push the straw inside the lid he will push the whole cup over sending its contents usually everywhere. What can i say Savannahs are funny creatures but i cant get enough of them. :)

haha No, jokes are more than welcomed. We never signed adoption papers cause Glenn was being a butt about it. But they found Sarabi a home! She's going Saturday & I swear ever since we found out she's been tearing up the house. She probably senses that something is up. But really.. getting the turkey sausage, tearing up loaves of bread, she opened a package of pop tarts. Shes going to drive me crazy by Saturday.

Oh boy do we know about the fascination cats have with straws and their determination to get them. I'll add one more thing, because I think they are related ... Open soda cans are a temptation that can't be passed up either and I think the common link is sv can hear the carbonation popping in either the straws or the cans ... I'm sure for kittens' curiosity ... This just has to be way too much!
