Slight difference maybe, I think cats may be more likely to harbor C. difficile than C. perfringens. BUT when it comes to pathogenicity, the PCR test for example is looking for C.perfringens toxin. Metronidazole can be favored simply because of it's soothing properties. Sometimes what you are really aiming to do is calm the system so that the animal's immune system can tackle the problem itself.

Well my thought is that since the cat has been tested a couple of times and is only coming up with clostridium now, which as has been pointed out is part of the normal gut flora and only grows an overabundance when the cat is sick or stressed, perhaps it is time to consider IBD. I read recently on a Winn post that IBD is the most common (non-infectious) cause of diarrhea in cats. There is actually a study looking at stem cells to correct or cure IBD in cats which I am hoping to get involved in for two of my boys who have had chronic issues.

I'm waiting to hear back from my vet - he already lost the info once so trying to be patient... ;-)

So... Managed to talk to Titi's vet !
The stools were not good this morning.
She is going to stay at their surgery for a couple of days in observation, with more tests done in their lab.
I mention the IBD (as mention in Glamouresque message) and they will do a blood test ,probably tomorrow.
Then we will see from there if she needs a referral for a vet surgery in Cambridge and more tests.
I can't wait to make her better, poor little thing!
