Cloudy Eye

Help... I am seeking advice while I am frantically trying to research on my own, hopefully one of the doctors here may see, or anyone who has any knowledge or experience in Keljins sudden symptoms.

Yesterday Keljin was being totally normal, no changes in behavior or health at all. Then I got a phone call from my boyfriend a few hours before I was done at work telling me he noticed one of Keljin's eyes was cloudy. At that point I wasn't concerned, maybe he got it scratched or got some dust or litter or something into it that is irritating it.

Then when I got home a few hours later, my whole world has collapsed. It may not be as serious as I am thinking, but normally Keljin runs down the stairs to greet me at the door and begs for me to pick him up and hug him for purrs and kisses. Not today. He did come running down the stairs excited, but at the bottom of the stairs he stopped and froze, looked right at me, then flinched and drew his head and neck back away from me.. He was squinting his left eye and I could see the noticeable cloud like he was suddenly an old blind cat. I can tell he was obviously in pain, he won't even let me pick him up. He is running away from me, and hiding in his bathroom. I gave him food, he is still eating and using his litterbox as normal which is good, but I have no idea what to do. Obviously I will call the vet in the morning and see what we can check out, but I want to prepare myself with as much knowlege as I can. Is it possible he could have something like a brain tumor, or any kind of illness that could cause these symptoms? Because of his pain and flinching, I am thinking something is wrong inside of him, rather than simple dust or debris.
I would get him to the vet as fast as I could. The eyes are nothing to guess at. Bacteria in an injured eye can cause permanent damage.

I have an update, I talked to Bre over the phone earlier. Good news is that her baby boy Keljin has lots of medicines to help his eye; anti inflammatory, antibiotics, pain killers, steroid eye drops, and eye drops to dilate his pupil. The vet confirmed that his iris is leaking protein so the dilation of the pupil will expose less of the iris. The bad news is they have no idea why. They took blood and are going to call Bre back today with the results. From what I gather it is unlikely to be a brain tumor like she was sickly worried about. Originally she thought his symptoms were neurological because he was stumbling about and twitching/flinching. The vet said that those symptoms were all very very likely to be related to Keljin being pain, not neurological.

One last thing, they also confirmed it is definitely not glaucoma.

Thank you so much for the update! While I don't like the news, I am glad the vet has seen him and they will fix Bre's boy, I am sure!

Thanks for the update Alisha, I was wiped out last night but thankfully Keljin is feeling 100% better with the meds in him today. It was a relief to see him all hyper and playful, eyes wide open no more squinting in pain. Let me say, giving a cat eye drops is NOT an easy task lol.

Unfortunately the vet has no concrete idea to what the initial cause of this flareup is. I still have so many questions in my mind.. Is this something that will be reoccurring that I will have to deal with the rest of Keljin's life? What is the underlying cause? The vet also mentioned a possibility of FIP so that is a big scare too... Otherwise she is thinking Bartonella or some other bacterial infection. Under the black light he had no ulcers or scratches or signs of damage that would have caused it.
