Update. Spar is much better. No leaking and stool is firming up, still loose but not a cowpie anymore. He's had his second dose of meds and HOPEFULLY he will continue to improve. Should I continue with Forti flora or wait till meds are done? Also, he is ravenous and I have been letting him eat. Any one think I should withhold food? Didn't want to since he is on meds and has such an appetite.

As long as he is getting better I would not withhold food, but I would continue the forti flora - or some other source of probiotics such as plain yogurt - until at least a few days after you have completed the antibiotics.

Thanks Patti. I will continue forti flora. Lil bugger won't eat yogurt of any kind. I thought I should probably be supplementing his intestinal flora on antibiotics.

Did you try mixing it in with some wet food? I don't think you need to give much, maybe a teaspoon a day? Someone else may correct me here, it's been a long time since I've had to use it.

I mix the forti flora with his food. He won't touch any amount of yogurt mixed with anything. No idea why. Thanks for your help and advice.

Bummer. Well Forti Flora is expensive but at least it's just temporary until he gets off the antibiotics.

Lesley, you can also try Probios Gel...cats love it and Zuri begs for it...http://www.probios.com/gels1.html

Also, in the future for diarrhea like that, you can give Imodium...I believe the dose is 1/4 tablet, but you need to make sure.

Glad to hear that Spartacus is doing better! When we brought our Manx, Shady, home 3 years ago, she began having very loose, smelly stools. Found out that she had Giardia. What a mess that was! Thank goodness, it didn't take too long to clear up.

Thanks guys for all the advice. Thanks admin for info about immodium. Vet didn't mention that could be used. I appreciate everything. Spar is doing well. No leaks, stool still loose, but he's still on meds. Hopefully this will clear everything up.

Quick question. Just took Spar to the vet to follow up after coccidia incident. He looks good, but stool has yet to return to normal. Loose and solid mix. Vet wants him on a rabbit and pea or duck and pea only diet to rule out food allergies. She also mentioned savannahs are fairly prone to IBS and digestive issues. Has this been the experience of members? And what do you guys think of the limited protein diet? For the record, i have been feeding rabbit and duck in rotation with RC kitten since we got him at 12 weeks. He did have loose stool then, but that could have been coccidia all along.
