If you are staying in a hotel then I might think that the cats might do best at the hotel with you... if you look on orbitz.com you can select "pets allowed" and find hotels that work...I think most of those sites will do that. But Residence Inns are good options especially for a few days as they have little kitchens and allow pets...

Wow, I am so sorry this happened to you! I would think the cats would be more comfortable at home, especially your Savannah - if he is afraid of your walk-in closet he will be traumatized by a boarding kennel or even a hotel with you there. I think if you can keep them in the bedroom that still had a functioning door, and make sure there are plenty of familiar items, e.g., beds, toys, etc. then that will be the least stressful on them. Good luck and I hope the repairs go quickly!

Yes, that is what I'm thinking. I just have to figure out how to keep him from tearing up the carpet by the door.

Can you pick up one of those floor protectors that go under office chairs? Put it inside the room with the 'tongue' (don't know what else to call it) under the door.

Alternatively, you can purchase plastic or rubber floor runners that are made for hallways and put a couple of layers of that over the rug and under the door.

I'll measure the desk chair protector to see if it will fit.
What's funny is when I first got simba and he was going through his quarantine I put a floor runner down with all the poky things facing up thinking he wouldn't walk on it. Didn't bother him a bit. He would walk on it and try to dig it up. I sure knew it if I stepped on it without shoes

LOL, my cats were exactly the same - but they couldn't dig through it to the carpet!

Exactly, although it doesn't seem to function to stop them walking in an area, the plastic of those things is thick enough they cannot dig through to the carpet....so even cutting them to fit a doorway can really work!
