I understand the point of view referenced above, about how emails are safer, and more convenient etc. But I for one am appreciative that the breeder I purchased from listed her phone number. I had been wanting a sv for several years, I would look at breeder sites and sigh ... I just couldn't justify spending what could come close to a down payment on a house for a pet. I had done an amazing amount of research in to the breed as I was so fascinated by. One day not long ago, I found Zeus at a price that I could accept, and for such an incredible looking cat, I couldn't be so lucky could I? The breeder must have alteast 10 people interested in him. I sent an email, and called and left a message on the phone number provided. The next day I was able to call and politely inquire in another vm and that evening got a return email. There were a couple of people that expressed an interest in him, but no deposit had been made. The next afternoon, I was able to put a deposit on him, and not a moment too soon as I found out on these forums. I'm not sure that I would have Zeus if it weren't for being able to call and leave a couple of msgs.

If I were a breeder, I think I might want to have a dedicated line where I could screen vms of potential customers. Someone can take 3 days to right just the perfect email, but when leaving a message, it is a little harder, and thus I believe genuine sincerity and interest may be discerned from a vm that may not be captured in an email.

Wow, I'm shocked that Zeus even let me finish this post. The movement of my fingers and the clicking of the keyboard are a combination that is hard to be refused. I've had more than one post deleted recently by my mischievious little furry friend. Please pardon my spelling, I'm the world's worst. =/

Phone calls can come at inconvenient times and tie you up for hours you simply don't have! Emails you can answer late at night. And even over a period of time if you need to answer multiple questions you can do it as you have time for it. I prefer getting through the important stuff to decide if a Savannah kitten is even right for that person before we spend time on the phone or let them come to my home.

My personal experience is that most that call rather than email have not done any research into the breed beyond seeing some pics and thinking they look cool. I end up spending hours educating them to be told that their budget is $200 and we agree that a kitty from the shelter is more in their budget. Or else I get abused for being so greedy to ask such high prices for a CAT.

My experience is quite the opposite of yours, Brigitte I find the ones who call first, are usually the ones who have done the research, and know exactly what they can afford and what they are looking for. If I don't have a specific kitten, I am happy to refer them. I get TONS of emails that basically state: How much are your cats? lol Those are the ones that require a lot of work pre-qualifying them for a possible kitten home....

Since I don't have much of a social life (due to my work shift) beyond cat shows and online conversations and groups, I really do enjoy the phone calls

I work 10-12 hours a day and simply don't have the time to talk on the phone with folk who have a million questions but have no intention of purchasing 'right now'. It is much easier to sit down and respond to an email on my terms and time schedule.

I just want to point out that I've had one man emailing, texting, calling for over three years now. Makes you think twice about giving your number. I have blocked him and he will get a new number or email.

I wonder if it depends on the area you are in? Are they mostly local calls, Pam? Here- when I advertised Sphynx with my phone number- I don't think I sold ONE kitten via those conversations. BUT I do recall quite a few lectures on how expensive my Sphynx were (and they weren't as expensive as a lot of Sphynx out there- and I did a lot more as a breeder then a lot of breeders charging premium prices!).

It might be...most of my calls are from 3-4 hours away from where I live; I do get the occasional out of state call or email. The two kittens that now live the furthest from my location (6+ hours) were both phone call inquiries. To date I have not placed a kitten "locally"; ie, less than 3 hours away.
