Day 10

Our cats were getting bone every day as it was ground into their raw recipes. They were fed whole ground rabbit (without fur), duck, chicken and pheasant all ground with bones in place. The rabbit was the only food that they would occasionally leave some bone fragments in their dishes and all the rest they would clean up pretty good.

In the interim it might be best to just use a tablespoon of bone meal per pound of slab muscle meat which you can pick up at a local health food store. That will get you by until you are able to start grinding bone in meats or pick up a product like the Mazuri one mentioned previously.

Hope that helps!
Will buy whole chicken tomorrow morning and will be first attempt at grinding. If we're not satisfied with that will order your recommendation for sure. Thanks for your support.

Personally on the chicken I just bought thighs. Easy to handle, dark meat has a greater amount of taurine and a high meat to bone ratio.

Keep in mind that for larger prey animals such as chicken a cat wouldn't eat the whole ting in it's entirety. They'll pick and choose what to eat, oft leaving behind some muscle meat or bones. Organs such as hearts, livers and kidneys are almost always consumed.

Great tip; thighs meat it is! Thanks

You know what I'd actually do? I'd go to plain newspaper in the litter box for now.

Let her tummy settle and then you can try different litters, but if she's still nibbling-- cats often will use a box with just paper in it. No, no good odor control, but one-- it will let you easily see what she's pooping out and it will break the habit of munching litter.
I can surly do that ......newsprint ink is it toxic? I have a newspaper recycler close by. Would need an endless supply of paper.

No-- it's not toxic.

Yes, you'd need a big fat supply. If you have any freebie newspapers that come out and you can grab a stack at like a grocery store- that'd work just fine.

Day 12 no sand .....still doesn't look right. Can't make a decision now about grinders, too tired mentally dealing with all these eating and litter issues. Yesterday I ordered from mazuri. Sunday no BM so I was extremely nervous thinking it might be blockage and the fact she was not acting like herself made it even worse. She wouldn't relax at the times of the day she normally does. Looking and hiding under things as if she expected someone was trying to catch her. It was a tense day.that was the reason for day 12 being delayed.
