Daytona is Sick...

Daytona Says What?!

I think the culprit is a change from Stella's to Nature's Instinct chicken flavor. Perhaps they didn't get the formula right and had a big mash of bone/calcium in one of the nuggets. Or maybe there is just too much bone in the batch. Either way, he's never had issues before with Stella's or Rad Cat. He even eats chicken necks no problem.

Anyway, I hope it won't be too hard getting him to eat after this is done...

Awww poor guy. Being full of poop is no fun but what a relief that he doesn't need surgery. When he gets home, consider adding 1/2 tsp of pure pumpkin to his food once or twice a week for a little while to keep things moving until his tummy and digestive system recovers. You can also add some probiotics to help with digestive system recovery also. I use Probios. The cats love it.

Ugh, constipation can be hell - I've dealt with it a couple of times in kittens. I hope all comes out well - literally and figuratively!

Daytona passed his super stiff bowel -- so we should be in the clear. Phew.

They gave him an enema, which did the trick. The stool was very hard and had a lot of bone/calcium in it, as expected. They also gave him some laxative, which they gave me a bottle of as well to administer over the next few days. They're confident that the stiff stool was for sure the problem and sent him home with me.

He's still pretty shook up and out of it, and was a little down on his dignity as he pooped a little in his carrier on the way home, but he seems much better and is glad to be home. We've been cleaning up, relaxing and getting some sun. He still isn't in to eating yet, but hopefully that will pass soon. I have four different food options out for him (sans Natures Instinct...), so hopefully something will strike his fancy soon.

The vet office was absolutely fantastic, and I'm so happy that I had such a competent staff to rely on.

Thanks for everyone who responded to this thread and offered insight. I really appreciate it and will keep you posted as he recovers.

So glad to hear he's feeling better!!

Do you know what the bone content is of the various foods he's getting? Sounds like he may need a little more muscle meat in his diet. Even if the bone content was only the recommended 10%, that is still too much for some cats. They are all different, just like us.

Still won't eat. Still acting sick. I force fed him some food on my finger last night and spooned some water. I've read that this may traumatize more than it helps, bit he didn't seem to upset. He did start to play a little last night and is a bit more responsive today, but still not well. I guess I'll call the vet again.

I've been at it 24 hours straight trying to keep him going. I've tried everything under the sun that he could possibly eat. Maybe it's something other than the constipation.
