Yikes, 6 pages - I suppose I've had a lot to say!!

I have not had her specifically checked for an intestinal blockage, but would hope the ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday would find it, if that's what it is.

Yeah, I agree with Patti- without that barium, they can overlook quite a bit when it comes to xrays/ultrasounds. I had a dog eat a cat toy and it ended up killing him due to negligent vets. And I ASKED for the barium swallow, but was told he didn't need it, blah blah blah... I'd really push for it in this case since you are already going in.

A barium contrast x-ray series is often useful, both because it shows you timing and any obstructions, and because the barium sulphate itself has a calming effect on the intestinal lining (didn´t we go into a timed barium x-ray series earlier in the thread? If not, we should have). But x-ray, not ultrasound for the time-lapse series.

Thank you to all for the additional info on the barium - it had not been mentioned before. Tomorrow is ultrasound day, hoping for something, anything, to help solve this mystery. I doubt they can fix the extremely stubborn and picky eater that she is, but maybe with all the trips to the vet and the shaved belly she'll finally give in!!

Hope she is like my kitten. I have one that just wouldn't eat that much. Acted most of the time like she felt ok, but I just couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. I took her in and they did blood work, only thing that showed up as possible was intestinal. Gave me meds and wouldn't you know it, she came out of the crate and started eating and hasn't stopped since!

Unfortunately, nothing helpful from the ultrasound. Inflammation from stomach through intestines. Vet who organized ultrasound said she needed IV, electrolytes and heat ASAP -- but wasn't offering to do so, kinda odd, and of course made me a little annoyed! The last 24hr emergency place was a disaster so she is back at my original vets. They may not have all the specialized equipment but at this point she doesn't need that, they care and will do all they can to stabilize and help her. We took the ultrasound pics and report to them. They've got her on IV and heat, will start her on pred injections and find a bland food she will hopefully eat. She's a fighter, gotta give her a chance, hoping with hydration and pred things will turn around over next couple of days.

Wow, so sorry...I really hope your baby gets well soon! It is so difficult with kittens and cats because they cannot tell you what is wrong :(

I feel your frustration at being unable to arrive at a diagnosis. I hope that once stabilized she will be able to start recovering from whatever is wrong. If the ultrasound showed inflammation it might very well be IBS, in which case the steroids are the way to go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her!
