At times we have a tendency to think the worst when the fix is as easy as talking to the breeder. These little ones can't take changes in their diets and once that little intestinal tract gets upset...it takes longer to fix it than it took to screw it up. I always stress that the babies remain on the food they were eating when they leave. You will not believe the times I have learned that the new owner has done what I have stressed not to do. This causes everyone to stress. Put that baby on the food it was eating when it left the breeder or if you have it on a good diet...leave it alone and let the upset calm down and do not keep changing the food if this is what you have been doing. By all means have the vet check it out, but also mention the food changes that you have or haven't gone through. Most of the time if a good vet realizes that the diet has been changed and the tummy upset happened around the same time....nothing other than settling into a good feeding pattern will solve the problem. If you don't mention it the kitten may be subjected to medicines that it did not need to begin with. Above all...call the breeder and let them know what is going on. They do know their cats and will be more than willing in most cases to give you all the help you will ever need. If you don't call them you are not being fair to them or the new kitten.

There is such a thing as a diarrhea panel that does a PCR to check for all sorts of things even corona viruses that can cause the runs.
Metronitozole or Flagyl is good to treat the cat with as it is just a digestive specific antibiotic.
My first Savannah had issues like that. It was very trying I know. Then there were no good PCR panels that screened for everything so we did what we could.
In a pinch, Kalolin, and digestive diets like Hill's ID and EN are good to have or you can make a bland food of boiled chicken and rice as a temporary fix.

Boiled chicken and rice is a good bland diet to help settle the system. Proviable paste has both probiotic bacteria AND kaolin to help firm the stools... so something like that might be worth it while waiting for the stool test results.

As Shelby says, once the system is upset it takes longer to undo the harm... and involving the breeder is a good first step when anything goes wrong with your kitten :)

I had a kitten, now a grown cat, that had the runs so bad, it was rediculous! I had him to the vet over and over again, ran all kinds of tests, on several different meds, different food etc. Last year we had to evacuate because of a fire we had here and the cats were all taken to safety. They had vets from Tucson come in to check all the animals and they decided to put this boy on Royal Canin special 33. What a difference this food made! I can't say enough about this food! When I got him home, I tried Eukanuba sensitive stomach and that worked also. You might want to try one of these. Good luck!
