More trials, but overall it sounds like his progression is more forward rather than backward.
I have never used fentanyl in any of my cats so unable to comment on that one...

Chongo had an adverse reaction and we needed to remove it a few days early while Dino needed it removed in under 24 hours. As I mentioned before, our IM vet doesn't like using Fentanyl at all on cats and if she was an auto mechanic she could tell you what was wrong with your car at 50 yards from the vibration of the hood.

Point to make.
Rascal and Chongo were brothers. I suspect they have a genetic trait making them unfit for fentanyl.
I, too, just checked with my vet, and he will not use fentanyl in any cat.
My suspicion is the 12mcg patch dose is far to high for certain types of cats. i.e Savannahs.
Like JP, I would like to hear if anybody else had an issue using fentanyl for pain control in their cat, Savannah or not.

Glad to hear Dino is doing better! Poor Dino and poor you guys... As for fentanyl... It is an issue for many animals and is not specific to Savannahs

Nina (my 62% F1) had a fentanyl patch after her spay without issue, Maddie (Baz's sister so F3) also did without an issue. But my vet won't send a cat home with one, they have to be under supervision overnight there at their hospital. Baz did have an issue with buprenorphine though, his dose per weight was way too much and ~1/4 was enough for him.

I agree, if you have the fluids at home you are experienced enough a pet owner to know if Dino needs anything further. I'm glad that they sent you home with those so you don't have to be stressing Dino out with more car trips. Happy that today was slightly better and hopefully tomorrow will be better still... <3

Thanks for the Fentanyl feedback. I'm glad I was suspicious as well as having SV Dad's help on that front. A 25% dosage as was used for Brigitte's Baz would seem appropriate.

Cat wipes have been a huge plus in Dino's recovery. We can clean things up nearly all the way to the incision which has reduced how focused he was at getting to his wound.

Another great little discovery was in their dog bowl sized water dish, where we routinely fill up half way with ice to keep them from playing in it, I placed a Robo Fish in the bowl. Not just any Robo Fish but the new northern Atlantic Cod version familiar with ducking and hiding under icebergs. Kept Dino's interest in the water not sure he drank any but he was very focused on it.

Dino's health continues to improve. We haven't had to give him fluids although he hasn't taken on much water on his own. He is eating on his own a couple times day and then gets easily force fed with small quantities of food that go along with his Meds.

We are finally able to start reducing the frequency of his pain meds. We've added a couple hours to the every 8 hour schedule and by the end of the day hope to be at 12 hour intervals if no setbacks.

Glad to be out of the woods, and time is the last barrier in the recovery.

Thanks again on the tips, thoughts and prayers. They mean the world to us.
