Dooley at the emergency vet

Waiting for the call this morning so I can go scoop Dooley out of the crate so he can be sedated and have his procedure done and tests completed.

We put an air purifier in his room at home so he can have a safe zone, hopefully that will get him through any episodes until we get things figured out.

Hoping the air purifier helps, is it a HEPA air filter? As an asthmatic, I find the ionic air purifiers exacerbate my asthma by the low amounts of ozone they produce... just thought I'd mention that in case it is relevant.

Thanks! Brigitte!

It is not the ionic type but it is a hepa filter type. I also bought a hepa wet/dry vac and spent the evening vacuuming the basement.

Currently at the vet helping get him out of the crate so he can be sedated and scoped. He's pretty intimidating because of his size and growl while in truth he is the easiest cat to handle at the vet that I've ever had.

Yeah but these Savannahs can act pretty convincing sometimes to someone that doesn't know them... it's usually easier if I just hold my F1s anytime they have a procedure. The cat is calmer and my vet trusts me to hold them.

Hope it all goes well!

Dooley is back home. The trach wash revealed some white cells and the X-rays revealed improvement from a week ago. It doesn't look to be bordetella although all the test results won't be back until Wednesday.

Here's a list of the Tests

Tracheal Wash
  • PCR Panel
  • Aerobic Culture
  • Cytology
CBC
Chemistry
Blood Ammonia: 144 umoI/L (N 0-95)
Urinalysis/Culture

The ammonia levels are a bit disconcerting, although the doctor said she'll review those numbers after the rest of the results and perhaps order a bile(?) test.

Anyway, he's still a bit wobbly but playing bed mouse with his brother.
