Dooley, injured Flipper

Me too, it just all depends on how the one fracture has healed. We'll find out on the 29th if he just needs a new cast for the last two weeks or if he needs surgery.

Oops, so my original math was wrong. He has 3.5 weeks if all checks out well, and 9.5 weeks if he needs to go under the knife. Given the holidays he could be casted until early March, so I'm really hoping we've been good parents and his injuries are looking good on his next X-rays and visit.

Thanks Patti!

It's incredible how the needs and wants of the boys change so much from day to day as a result of this.

I really needed to get some sleep last night, so I didn't camp out with them. However they managed to jailbreak their room at about 4AM, start the Roomba so they could beat it up and then hid under the bed once I got up to track them down.

Dino managed to escape my clutches, Dooley is pretty easy to catch and it's a real effort for him to crawl under the bed after I had lured him out. So I put Dooley back in his holding room, where he raised holy hell about being separated from his brother and Dino proceeded to beat the crap out of the Roomba several more times until he was apprehended around 6am.

I guess in all I just feel sorry for the people who don't have these cats as there is just so much of their life they aren't awake for.

Life has been moving by pretty quickly and last week on Christmas Eve Dooley managed to pull his cast off for the second time. We weren't able to get him into our regular vet, and the emergency vet was pretty insistant that we should have an X-ray done a week early.

What the X-ray revealed is the one metacarpal bone is healing and calcifying as it should and the other is still a displaced fracture. Totally sucks, and it looks like Dooley will require surgery.

For whatever reason, there seems to be a long delay for getting Dooley into see the surgical specialist. They have told me they can't evaluate him until January 13th, which will be approximately 8 weeks from the injury.

If I thought all the vets and the level of care were the same I would just go somewhere else. Knowing that not being the case, I really just need to figure out what the best action is for Dooley.

I'll drop off the X-Rays at my regular vet on Thursday, having them make the second referral to the Surgical center after they have viewed them. Holiday weekend and my guess is nothing will happen until Monday and I'll just bring Dooley in as an emergency patient Monday afternoon.

Sucks that I need to roll through the emergency room to get into the cue earlier, but that seems to be the best way to speed up their process. $200 and whatever a night stay costs, so be it.

Ugh, that really sucks that after all this time Dooley is going to need surgery, and then probably several more weeks of recovery. Poor little guy, and poor you to have to go through all that! I only hope the time will go by quickly for all of you!!
