Dooley still challenged

Dooley got admitted this morning, his gums were pink, he was lethargic and still anorexic. His breaths were shallow and rapid at around 100bpm. This is somewhat typical when he has stress present because of the underlying asthma.

The immediate treatment is they are getting him under oxygen, as no matter what is going on it makes him feel better and getting him some Sub Q fluids. They are also going to give him a mild dose of pain meds as well as something to help his digestive track start moving again.

I'm going to need to get back in touch with Dr Lisa Pierson soon so we can get his diet modified. His liver numbers were great last time he was in for a check up after getting some protein out of his diet, now it looks like we will need to trim the fat.

John, make sure you discuss his fatty diet with all the doctors. There is conjecture that too much fat can trigger pancreatitis. I know his diet is formulated for liver issues but maybe there needs to be adjustment.

As always, hoping for the best outcome for this awesome boy.

Now Witchy, you know I respect your advice. And you are usually right! I just can't resist twitching your nose every now and then!:)
The concur was a serious remark as I have read about that issue.

Thanks Deborah!

They have copies of his recipe and the calorie breakdown. Previous batch I had forgot the butter and the present batch I got it in there. Then of course who knows how much chicken fat is on a chicken thigh from one to another. I'm just hopeful we get the opportunity to work through this as we've made great progress with managing his liver disease and asthma, god willing we'll beat this back too.

Dr Pierson and I also had a conversation about the fat content of his diet and my concerns about how he would metabolize all of it. You push your finger in on a balloon and it pokes out somewhere else. Looks like I'll be able to reduce the fat content by 15% shuffling things, although they aren't sure this want resultant of some sort of trauma.

I forgot to mention that when all the liver issues started with Rafiki, I was instructed to limit the fat. I was even advised to switch from thigh meat to breast meat and remove the skin. But, when she had pancreatitis, she was already on this crazy lean diet for 3 months so I don't see the correlation. She did recover from the pancreatitis in less than a week so hopefully Dooley will start feeling better soon.

BTW, Rafiki recently discovered the joys of butter. Cooking is becoming more interesting.

Excited to have an update!

Dooley is doing better, SubQ fluids, breathing rate is down to 40 bpm after being removed from oxygen, his ALT liver numbers are normal, he's been given some pain meds and metoclopramide for the GI issues.

XRays revealed Dooley has distended intestines and stomach as well as two areas where the vet believed there were two odd masses. I'm pretty sure those two small masses were the end of a syringe Dooley bit off last night that I neglected to mention. The doctor said one had like a doughnut shaped void, so bingo!

Tomorrow they will do an ultrasound to get a better look at any possible obstruction as well as a better look at the pancreas. There is some concern about those small syringe pieces and they may scope him to retrieve them. This will also give them the opportunity to do a biopsy on the pancreas.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, and hopefully we are out of the woods.
