Dooley still challenged

Dooley continues to do well. It's pretty obvious when he's not feeling well, as Dino adjusts his level of play.

Everything is pretty much hinged around the quantity of food he eats and what's in his bowels. Chances are if he looks like he's not feeling well, a gigantic dump isn't that far away. Stinky as all get out, and I can't wait until we can get him onto a raw diet again.

I've probably mentioned most of this before, but his meals are now spread out exactly 6 hours apart. Again everything is dialed in so we can get as much food in him as possible, while at the same time making sure at each meal he's hungry enough to take the meds that are mixed in with his food. It doesn't sound like all that much, but it's a real chore and a balancing act with our work schedules.

Anyway, just hoping we can keep Dooley on the right path and he has a successful surgery. Thanks again to everyone keeping our little big boy in their thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update... He is definitely still on our prayer list... I certainly know it is a lot of work, I know that Dooley appreciates it even though he may not really feel like showing it right now.

Oh and btw, Dooley made the leap from the floor to the top shelf of the 6' cat tree today. Always strikes me as odd how well he feels one moment and then a few hours later seems very compromised.

In my opinion, that is a great sign... A sign that he is in no way giving up... I know a lot of pets once they get to feeling so bad that they just give up and that is the end of it.... Dooley is doing the best he can do and staying for the fight! Just keep him fighting (not literally) to keep him going.

Glad to hear that Dooley continues to hold his own. Continuing to pray until the surgery is over and he is recovering.

He's absolutely a stubborn little tough guy, always has been.

Here's a picture at 5 months old striking that tough guy pose with my sister.

Two days away from Dooley's surgery. He's doing quite well, just a bit agitated from the Keppra. His weights up, he's nearly always stable with the exception of when he needs to drop a cow pie from the Lactulose and plays as if there isn't anything wrong with him.

Just the same I am still apprehensive about the surgery. I keep replaying in my head all the other contributing factors as to why his liver might not have been functioning properly. Certainly they were a factor while it doesn't remove the issue of the liver shunt, although it could have been a lot longer before any symptoms showed up.

So Tuesday being the day, just wondering if there are any last second questions I should be asking. While there is certainly a path for the surgery to follow, by the nature of this type of surgery it is exploratory as well as they don't know exactly what they will find and need to correct. They've identified blood flow bypassing the liver and I guess the rest his how much they can restrict it without creating to much pressure on the other blood vessels and the liver.

I'm probably going to have to keep myself sedated until you give us a thumbs up after the surgery. I can only imagine how you and Trish are feeling right now. Please know that both of you and Dooley are in my thoughts and I'm fervently praying for a excellent outcome for that sweet boy. Hugs to all of you.
