Dooley still challenged

Unfortunately, it was followed up with him not wanting to eat his food, picking through it and having a pretty bad day. We really need to find a better alternative than the Hills k/d and as I understand the l/d is so awful the vet won't even recommend it.

Part of the longer term plan is finding out just how much protein he can tolerate. If I could just mix in 3 teaspoons of raw a day I'd feel a lot better. Also need the green light to add in some fish oil and taurine because what he is currently needing to eat his food is about a third vegetable (green beans, spinach, carrots).

He's also consuming a couple teaspoons of butter a day as that's the only way we've been able to pill him, cover the pill and then have two small pieces on your knuckles so he'll swallow the trojan butter horse. This happens 5x a day, and he's still very powerful with huge choppers. Certainly don't want him to end up with pancreatitis, although that Keppra not sliding down can cause a major issue with him.

I'll keep all posted and thanks for the responses.

Sigh. You have been on that rollercoaster ride for a very long time. I hope the fun part of the ride comes more frequently and lasts longer in the near future!

Dooley had a good visit with the vet on Monday. He got the green light to add some supplements to his food, fish oil and some extra taurine. We didn't get to reduce the Keppra, but the Lactulose was cut in half. It's firmed up his stools and made him a lot less gassy.

He has another follow up appointment in two weeks and if everything is going ok we will begin the process of getting him off the hills food and begin the transition to a modified raw diet.

We did have one setback as he was pretty much fasted for his vet visit and upon his return home he receieved the balance of his breakfast. Roughly 2 hours later that was followed up with his afternoon feeding. The bulk of food led to an involuntary motion episodes that was relatively short lived. That is pretty trying as it's an indication he really isn't getting better, we are just medically dealing with things better.

Just had a consultation session with Dr Lisa Pierson on a new raw diet and I'm pretty stoked about the prospects. Found out lots of things I was doing right and some areas where I could have done better on the raw meals I was preparing. Moving forward I'm pretty sure I'll be able to prepare better for both the boys.

I guess the thing that really gave me pause is just how much protein I was feeding my boys and how little fat. Then they were strong arming me into removing even more fat with non-compliance on eating the higher fat foods like duck, turkey and chicken.

The most interesting thing was how differently you can modify the profile of chicken, simply by just moving the skin. Then there was also how I was dealing with constipation issues because of the bone and the answer wasn't adding something to make the boys more regular, but rather simply removing bone.

Anyway, I'm stoked and I'm thinking there are some huge opportunities to get Dooley healthier and even improve Dino's diet.

Awesome! Great to hear! What is her consultation charge?

Her rate is $125 per hour. Not sure how much I'm going to be in for, but Dooley has a pretty extensive medical history she read through and we spent about two hours on the phone. I can't even begin to say how many times I've looked at her site and was overwhelmed by all the data. After the first 5 minutes she framed everything and I'm going to be comfortable presenting things to my IM vet along with the pending recipe. In the end I'm just armed with a better set of tools to deal with the dietary needs of our cats.

That is very cool, I'm really glad you were able to get quality information from her that will help Dooley, and even Dino!
