Dooley still challenged

It was Dino that bit me before he realized who he was biting. I typically will put a finger in his mouth when we cut his nails, just this time it startled him and he had the hands of two other people on him.

Still hurts a bit, but healing up well.

OK, I am getting all too confused about what I posted and didn't.

Dooley had his appointment with the IM vet. They did a blood ammonia test again, but this time she wanted him to eat as normal before checking it. The numbers came back elevated, although they have fell into the high normal range when medicated and fasting.

So I have been a bit troubled by those findings as I can't find anything that suggests what normal may be with a full stomach. I'm concerned about doing an ammonia stress test, not that the doctor has suggested one, but I'm not sure how else you would get things figured out.

The doctor has dropped two of his medications by a third, although the primary one, Keppra, he is still taking the same dosage.

Not sure what else I can be doing for my boy as he seems to be doing fine with his medication adjustments. His next appointment is in late January and I'm assuming this time he'll go in fasting.

After this next appointment, I think I need to head out of state and get a second opinion. Dooley is certainly under good care, just need to see if there is anything else I can do for him. My guess is Cornell is my best shot, and I need to figure out how I can get a referral into see Dr Sharon Center.

Here's the boys hanging in one of their doorless carriers.

I' glad to hear that Dooley is doing well, in spite of the elevated ammonia level. You can find Dr. Center's contact info on this page, including her email: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/faculty/Center/ I would simply email her and ask how to go about scheduling an evaluation with her. I'm sure it goes without saying but once you have the appointment scheduled, it would probably be helpful to have all of Dooley's records faxed to her ahead of time so that she can review it and be familiar with his case before you walk through the door.

Thanks Patti!

I have all Dooley's records, and there are a ton of them. So that's the easy part. Figuring out reasonable expectations for a visit to Cornell are a lot tougher.

Feeling pretty thankful that Dooley seems to be more than recovering. He's got a spring in his step, he's back to his normal weight and outside of some minor tremors seems to be totally fine. Looking forward to his January check up and hopefully further reduction of his meds.

From the near certainty of Dooley not making it, as his heart stopped twice, receiving the call from the vet about resuscitation instructions. A surgery that didn't find what was expected, daily routines of 6 feedings to go along with 5 medication administrations, our little guy has been an absolute champ about things. So we definitely have much to be thankful for through the Christmas season, and an ever improving Dooley has been a well received gift.

Oddly, Dooley's eyes seem to be getting lighter in color. The vet had said their was a higher propensity for brown eyed cats to have liver disease. I'll try to find a good comparative picture as Dooley's eyes have gone from brown to amber to something that now seems to be closer to almost orange.

No matter how you slice it, he's continually doing better.
