Dooley still challenged

Some great news to share!

After nearly a year, Dooley had some very positive test results from the vet. His fasting ammonia levels were a mid normal and after taking his meds and eating 7ozs of food he posted a normal high blood ammonia level. That's the first time we've been there in all the tests over the past year and while it doesn't get him off his current regimen, at least we have some flexibility on his schedule.

At this point I'd like to talk to the surgeon who did the liver shunt surgery, finding no shunt and a discolored and unhealthy liver. I always felt he thought Dooley's days were numbered and for me that was the day I knew I had to dig a little deeper as nothing good ever came easy. Medicating 5 times a day, 6 feedings and 4am nose burning, eye watering, odorous dropping of heat.

So thank you Rascal, Deborah, Brigitte, Patti and everyone else who shared some advice to help us through. 6 months until his next appointment on this issue, and life just got a little less challenging.

Thanks again!

Great to hear this news!

Thanks for all the info on the blood/ammonia levels and the frailties of sampling them. The lab machine they use for testing the blood samples needs turned on and ready to go before the samples arrive, and it's less than a couple minutes between collecting the sample and running them. Could actually be less than a minute.
